Off Road Diesel

Wow, sounds complicated in other places. Here in Montana Off-Road is sold in just about every gas station, no questions asked. I have at least three places to by it in a town of just over 4,000 people, right at the pump.

We can buy it at the pump or have it delivered with a 100 gallon minimum. Its quite a bit cheaper to have it delivered so I setup an account with the fuel distributer.

Just got my permit a few months ago...

No one can legally sell it to another unless that party has a permit..... ( in texas )

Fill out a form,, send in... Texas will send you back a couple copies of it.... Xerox them and provide it to any place that deals with diesel (red) and they can LEGALLY sell to you.

That was the law as explained to me a few months ago by my distributor...

At the same time if you can buy it down the road, even if you got caught the small quantities probably involved, and the fact you could easily prove how you use it.... Not a big deal...

The form I signed included language to the effect that I WOULD NOT sell it or otherwise transfer it.

All it cost me was a stamp and I'm legal..........

Without the permit I was unable to get any of the places nearby to consider selling to me... Even when I was going to pump directly into tractor. That tells me 2 things. 1.. They know better and 2.. They probably sold some and got caught and are taking no more chances.

Here in Florida my options for diesel are 1) #1 diesel fuel or 2) #2 dryed high sulfur off-road fuel
My John Deere dealer has recommended that I use the #1 fuel.

#1 is extremely clean burning, but lower BTU's Stick with a good grade of #2 it is better.

Holzster, I don't know anything about the permits but, Millen Oil Co in McKinney delivers to most of the farms around me. They are on main street just east of Hwy 5. I had a friend that ran a small dozer service and that is where he was getting fuel from. He had one of those large L shaped tanks under his tool box in back of truck and would just stop by and have it filled. I'm sure they could help you out.

Nobody in Florida has any business running #1 Diesel unless the daily temperature maximum is 15*F or below.

You need a new dealer if in fact he recommends you to use #1 /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Skypup is exactly right!! No way you should burn #1 unless it's absolutely necessary. Especially don't use it for older diesels. Kerosene burns very dry and it's not good for diesels on a long-term basis.
