Off Road Diesel

I'm pretty sure you can. My friend did not have a tank at his home. He would just stop by there in McKinney and have his tank filled.

In my Florida area, I get it from the local wholesale supplier; like others have mentioned, he'd deliver it if I could take 300 gallons or more, so I pick it up. I had to fill out a form that the distributor keeps on file. All I save is the road tax; I'm not certified as agriculture, so I do have to pay the sales tax. I still save about 40 cents per gallon.

The fuel is the same whether off road or on road; they just add die to indicate that the road tax hasn't been paid. I bought a new 55 gallon steel drum from the distributor for $20; they would have given me an old one free. I drive up to their pump with the barrel strapped upright in the back of my pickup, they fill it, and I drive the 6 miles back to my property, and use the FEL to unload it. I'm not sure what the D.O.T limit is for fuel transportation in Florida, but no one has ever bothered me. I'm pretty sure I'm legal as long as it's in an open truck rather than a closed vehicle. I suppose there is some point at which I would have to placard the truck, but at around 50 gallons I'm sure I'm safe, because the diamond plate tanks in pickup truck beds are around 50 gallons, and they don't have to placard.

That reminds me -- I'm empty, again, and have to go get some early next week...I use my tractor a lot, get between .5 and .7 gph, so I use about 5 gallons in an average day (8 - 10 hours). I tend to go through a drum every month to 2 months.

1*No one can legally sell it to another unless that party has a permit..... ( in texas )
The form I signed included language to the effect that I WOULD NOT sell it or otherwise transfer it.
.........
This sucks sucks and sucks.
It prevents half a dozzen guys fron setting up a 2 or 3 hundred gallon tank and sharing from it so they can meet the min. amount required to get off road fuel delivered.

Wow, sounds complicated in other places. Here in Montana Off-Road is sold in just about every gas station, no questions asked. I have at least three places to by it in a town of just over 4,000 people, right at the pump.
exactly how it should be everywhere.
Just like gasoline is available.

Maybe things have changed in Montana in the past 3 years since this thread was active. Have you come up with a way to make this happen everywhere?

We can buy it at the pump or have it delivered with a 100 gallon minimum.
Its quite a bit cheaper to have it delivered so I setup an account with the fuel distributer.
This don't add up why is delivered cheaper?

This would help a lot.
Wave the tax in areas where red fuel is not available at the pump and the large Min Delivery requirements prevents feasibility of home delivery.

I got it today, right next to the regular diesel. Why would it be a big deal? Too many laws in this country.

1* RITE ON.
2*I don't see any excuse for red fuel being so much harder to get than regular diesel and gasoline.
It can't be profit as the red stuff is keeping the suppliers and distributors in business.
