In August 2005 the Engine Manufacturers Association (EMA) issued a statement saying that the 520 micron wear scar specification listed in ASTM D975 was not consistent with the requirements of fuel injection equipment manufacturers. They recommended that the lubricity specification be changed from 520 microns to 460 microns.

The other night I could'nt think of the EMA for the life me. I think its sad that our goverment will allow our fuel prices be so high and throw a high per gal tax on top of it but wont require the manufactors to meet the EMA's 460 micron specification. The manufactors have a hard time meeting the specs set forth by the goverment you forget about them going beyound it.

Here in GA red dye is added to the off road fuel, we're told that it doesn't haven't any effect on operation, my 4500 doesn't run well on it at all, I bite the bullet and buy mine from a local truck stop

Around here they put red dye in the on road diesel Knock about 40 or 50 cents a gallon off the price and sell it as off road diesel or home heating oil.
I don't see how a tractor would run any better on fuel from a truck stop at 40 or 50 cents more a gallon for the same stuff.

The red dye isn't affecting the performance of your tractor.
You could put the red dye in the truck stop fuel you get and there would not be any difference in the way your tractor runs.

that "40 or 50 cents" should be your road tax.

Yep and that's why I can't see how paying tax on it makes fuel any better.

It doesn't. Time to whip out my dye pictures again. Picture taken at our refinery. We sell diesel to the public (mostly barges, tankers, not by the 5 gallon jug). If you have the paperwork and are exempt from taxes, you get red dye, if not we charge the taxes and you get no dye. The dye is injected at the last minute. We don't store dyed diesel. As you can tell, no one likes working on the dye machine. :D

Personally I buy it at the local gas station. But my tractor only uses about 1/2 gallon an hour.

I set this up cause I got tired of paying 40 or 50 cents more a gallon for fuel and lifting and lugging 5 gallon cans got old.

Wasn't there trouble a few years back with dye in marine diesel ruining seals and or gaskets in some diesel gensets or Cats or something ?

More recently there has ben troubles with fiberglass tanks dissolving from the ethanol in gas making some sort of black goo blocking filters and such. Not all fiberglass, just some.

How do you get the fuel into the white barrel?

If you notice there are 2 fittings coming up out of the top of the drum
The one without a hose on it is a cap for the 2" opening in the drum.
To fill the drum you remove this cap and fill the drum there.
