probably not doing anything wrong... Turbos fail from time to time... and some are MUCH more prone to failure than others.
If the turbo is sized more for emissions, sometimes it will cause a short service life... especially when bean counters got involved in the design..
In the end, I doubt you are doing anything wrong as a driver.
