You've been waiting 56 years to be "bum down, feet up"!! Enjoy!! Love that expression by the way.

Best of luck in your retirement! We are having a ball. Wife and I are 10 and 12 years in ours. Haven't looked back yet and don't plan to. Once neighbors find out you have equipment and are retired, you will have friends from all over.
Enjoy!

Congratulations! 1 year 9 months in myself. Do not miss the old job one bit. I guess that’s because I have so many new jobs.

Finally but I agreed to go back to work just to help out when they get stuck which is next week!
Applied for a pension from the Government and it was granted, I receive the princely sum of $6.20pa (yes folks six dollars and twenty cents a year) but I do get a pensioner concession card which gives me discounts on electricity, water, rates, vehicle registration and a few other perks.
Started work when I was 14 (school deemed me a no hoper and intellectual midget) and became an electronic tech then off to university where I gained 2 BA's, 1 MA and a Phd in Forensic Psychology which is what I still dabble in.
Turned 70 mid December.
I am now officially a farm labourer, fencing contractor, stock feeder, horse whisperer, dog trainer etc etc.
Self funded retiree hence the massive pension from the Government but I have enough to buy a new car should I need one and generally do what I want, firefighting is not high on my list of priorities and I'll leave that for the young ones.
No debts apart from the missus who overheats my water cooled VISA card on 'bits' we could have never got by without (?)
So bum down and feet up for a few days while I appraise my newfound status.

Congratulations on the retirement, with your many good academic accomplishments I would certainly disagree with your school's pessimistic assessment of your potential.
I can relate, having been an underachiever in high school mostly due to my less than acceptable attitude, a condition I corrected later in life by earning my Associates of Science in Auto Technology and later a BS in Business with tuition paid by my long time employer, Ford. I am presently working as a substitute teacher in the local high school, trying to impress upon the students the importance of doing their best in their studies.
The extra money comes in handy to buy tractors and implements.

One of lifes milestones fulfilled. Remember to create another. I'm teaching myself to play the guitar during the winter. My wife bought it for me 6 years ago when I retired. Little late but I hate deadlines.

Yes, the hours are really good. BUT the pay is nothing to write home about. :)

Good on ya, Mate.

Surprised you're not already getting heaps of concessions via your Gold Card.

Bit silly but I never took full advabtage apart from specialist bills, I felt guilty about taking advantage of what I could afford but it has saved me thousands in health insurance.
Heading of to strike it rich in the goldfields early in march, anticipate finding many ounces of bottle tops.

Congratulations. You did very well.

I retired 20 years ago. No regrets.

Our home is on the market and we are looking at a bigger house with more land just to ensure I stay active, I am dreading the move as our assets seem to double every 10 years, 20 years ago, no tractor, today 2 tractors and a heap of implements, caravan, a couple of trailers, 8 horses, 4 cars, a shed full of heavy stationary woodworking machinery, the list goes on.

LOL, know the feeling.
When I moved I put out to trash about 5 yards of stuff I refused to move.
LOL, the pickers had great night picking but next AM nothing left.

The upside was I had an impressive collection of aviation parts and the local trade school took and provided me a $5000. tax credit for teaching aids.
LOL, they sent a van and 2 helpers to load up. (easy to house clean)

I'm a little late to your retirement party, but congrats and as others have said welcome to the club . . . only the wife keeps me busy, very busy . . .

Congrats regarding retirement. Just do NOT set on the porch and wait for the grim reaper to take you.

I have been retired 10 years this coming June and had basically no hobbies prior to retiring since I worked mostly 7 days a week. Now I have a big tractor, a small TLB, two zero turn lawnmowers, a boat, a larger house than when all 5 kids, mother-in-law and grandmother lived with us and over 11 acres of land. I have just enough to keep me busy if I want but not so much that I cant just set and look out the window when I feel like it.

Retirement is grand but one does need to have something to do from time to time. Retirees that become couch potatoes usually dont live long after retirement.

Now that i'm retired it's 6 Saturdays a week and a rest day on Sunday if I need one. the pay isn't great, but the stress level is great as I do some DIY around the old house and run errands.

Ya, when I go into our small town (about 7 miles) and go to the grocery store the clerk will ask "what are you doing this weekend?" I say the same I have 6 Saturdays a week and one Sunday. Most all know . . . ;)

That's exactly how I look at it. I've said that to inquiring friends many times. I rarely know what day of the week it is. I rarely know the date within 5.

Ya know Richard . . . pretty much how I think (or don't).
