Hi All:

I have a L4400 Hydro tractor. I use Agrisupply's Keulavator when hilling my garden. One thing that would make it a much better tool is if I could offset the disk so that it could disk the tire track. I rototill everything with my Landpride tiller before hilling. I have the same concern with my tiller.

I've tried to use the locator holes on the lower arms on the 3-point in a manner the sets the implement to one side. However, the displacement isn't sufficient to avoid compaction with the tractor's tires.

Has anyone ever configured their 3-point to allow disruption of the tire track of their Kubota or similar tractor? Is there an attachment or some kind of standard device that keeps the tires from compacting the soil when you are trying to create a new seedbed?

I have a toolbar that doesn't have any attachments on it. I could make something that would till the tracks but I am unsure of a design that would turn-over the tracks at the same time that I am hilling the garden.

Same deal with the rototiller. If I've just rototilled the area I look back at what I've done and I see 1/2 a tire track from my right tire. So the tiller catches this area but the tire recompacts it as I travel.

Thanks,

Jon

Kinda sounds like your tiller isn't wide enough for your tractor. You could try adjusting the tires to a narrower width if possible. The tiller should be as wide as the tractor tire from outside tire edge to outside tire edge. You can get a few inches of offset by shortening the stabilizers on one side and lengthening the other side to hold it in place, if that doesn't do it , then you need a wider tiller.

Thanks Gary. I have the tiller designed for my tractor (land pride has an alliance with Kubota). I thought the hitch was adjustable with an offset. I can't figure out how you do it though.

Thanks Orangeandgreen:

I can't allow for so much room unfortunately. I've seen guys modify their tillers so the soil is hilled as it comes out of the rotor box. The ones I've seen have wings that point inwards. I was thinking of a way to add these but thought I'd ask if anyone has ever used their hitch with an offset.

I don't know anything about kevulator's, but I have a L3400 HST, and I have a county line 72 " tiller for it. I go slow, but it seems to do a great job, and I haven't had any problems with it. With a HST, you can run a bigger tiller, because you can vary the groundspeed to match the job. IMHO, :)

One thing is that you really don't want to put a lot of stress on the shaft of the tiller, it really runs better as straight as possible. It could also screw up your bearings in the pto and/or the tiller if you punish it enough.

I know what you mean. That's part of why I asked this question.

The lower lift arms have pin-holes to allow you to cant the implement to one side or the other. I was thinking that this is for a plow set up where you are running half in and half out of the furrow. However this cant will put the tiller away from being perpendicular to the axis of travel. So you could offset the travel to partially cover your tracks. In the case of using a tiller you would now be running at an angle to the straight-line direction of your task.

When the soil is loose and already tilled the stresses are well within what I would imagine are, design parameters for the shafts and bearings. BUt that means you'd have to re-till what you've just done.

I know I read in the information that Kubota publishes or if not, somewheres, that you can offset the implements with this hitch. I was hoping someone who reads this would know the particulars . . . . but . . . I guess not. The next step would be to ask this question with a more focused articulation, in the Kubota section of the TBN community.

Thanks for the feedback 300UGUY.

I am in the market for a hiller to use next Spring and the Keulavator was one of the ones I was considering. The price was right and it would probably work just fine, but I did not care for the open area in the center because it did not appear to allow the exact adjustment you want to make. I don't see any way to do it. I personally am leaning towards one of the ones available from Everything Attachments because the bar that the disks attach to has adjustment holes it's full length. (GB50 deluxe and bigger) It's a bit pricey but seems more substantially built and is certainly more flexible in set-up options. Check out the Everything Attachments garden bedders. Maybe you can get an idea from theirs on how to adapt what you have to do what you want. Perhaps you can add sweeps to loosen the tire track compaction.

Thanks for the feedback paulemar:

I am not clear on what you mean here. I am assuming that you are saying the adjustment is to turn over the area where the tires run yes? If not maybe you could provide me with an example.

I thought of sweeps but that is another thread I guess. I don't use EA because by the time you pay shipping, the cost is exorbitant. They have a good selection and I've never seen anything negative about them (although I always check resellers.com). I think they offer free shipping within X number of miles but if you live where I do, I'd be over the top in dough spent.

My question and point was to ask if someone with a similar model Kubota knew of the feature I remembered advertised/stated about adjusting the hitch to offset it. Have you ever seen any literature that suggested models other than the BX series could offset the travel of the implements?

Thanks again,

Jon

On the Landpride tiller: See if your lower attach points on the tiller will offset. I believe that the Landpride clevis hitch points are movable by loosening the "U" bolts and sliding them both to the left or right so that when you attach it to the 3 point hitch you can cover one of the tire tracks. I've never heard of anything that will work for what you want to do with the hiller if I understand correctly.
