Oil change question..

My BX gets an oil change every 25 hrs. It takes about 15 minutes and $5 in oil plus a filter (don't have that price available, purchased several when I was at the dealer some time back).

I just slide the oil pan under the tractor, remove the plug, have a soda, twist filter off with hand(s), oil gasket on new filter, screw new filter on, pour some quantity of oil in, check level, repeat until satisfactory amount of oil (plus a little extra for filter) is in crank case (I don't have a way of measuring tenths of quarts) and resume "work".

$5 plus filter is CHEAP insurance against engine problems. Besides, I have to have some reason to stop working to drink a soda!

You're even more careful than I am. I do mine every 50 hours (remember, the recommended interval is based on heavy use, not like passenger cars where they say 7500 miles "unless you drive your car like most people do"), and I thought I was being extra careful by changing the filter at the same time - filter changes are only recommended every 100 hours.

Junkman, no need to apologize. I totally did not even think of that, serious here. I figured there was no way I could get my polish hands in there; so, I needed to remove the sides.

I take the sides off on my L3010. Easy to take off and put back on. I might be able to remove the filter without taking them off, but why do that? With them off I can eyeball everthing & see whether or not the filter leaks. JMHO

Here's the Tractor Supply Co. oil filter wrench I used - cost $3.85! A 1/2" socket wrench/extension can be used in the end, or a 3/4" open end on the outside. It works fine, but is probably harder to reset as the filter turns than the metal one shown earlier. My BX-22 took almost one gallon with the filter. I was on a nice level surface. I used Kubota's 15W-40, which may get changed to something else for the winter.
