Oil Filter Question

I think that if you change your oil and filter regularly, that the Purolator or any name brand equivalent to the one that you found by Purolator would be an acceptable cross reference. The tractor is too new, and there are not very many of them in the field, so Purolator and the other manufacturers have not had a reason to do a cross reference to it. If you send the old filter to Purolator, they could dissemble it and tell you the cross reference. At that point, they might even start a listing in next years books, but don't bet on it. It all depends on who opens the package and to what degree that he cares....

Out of curiosity, how much does the dealer want for a filter?

I shopped around town and bought an after market filter for my kubota for 9 bucks. Next time I was at the dealer (100 miles away) I bought kubota part for 6.50. Are you really saving anything buy shopping for an aftermarket filter?

I'm not looking to save money with an aftermarket filter. I am looking for a better filter. Purolator, Pureone filters, as well as Baldwin filters are very high quality filters. They also have an anti-drainback valve that prevents old, dirty oil from draining back into the engine after the engine is turned off since the filter on my tractor is mounted horizontally.

So what is the filter number You use?

There are several filters that are comonly used on the small diesel engines. The afformentioned Baldiwn B179, B1400, B1402 and others all share similar characteristics with some dimensional changes, and bypass pressure setting.

If you want the fine filtration of the Pure One then I would use it. The automotive application that it was designed for would likely require more oil flow than a low RPM engine like a tractor, so flow won't be a problem. With your Diesel you may need to change the filter more often, not sure. But it looks like you've done your homework on the match up. The ones that come to mind are the motorcraft FL1A and FL-400s filters that can be cross referenced to Pure One. I believe these too would fit your application. I would put the largest filter on that would fit since the cost isn't any more. I've been running a pure 1 FL-400s eqivalent on my Onan for years now. The oil stays a lot cleaner than the stock onan filter and it's half the cost.
I don't think you'll have any problems with the filters you want to put on. Go for it, let us know if you observe any differences.

I didn't cut the one open that I took off last august during my 50 hr service. Guess I should have.

Unless I see different I'm going to stay with the OE filter, for less $.

Last time when I saw Jim his oil filters were more then $5. I think online has the OEM filters for around $4.65
