Oil Related Engine Failures

/ Oil Related Engine Failures #21
I've had one oil related failure...........Didn't change oil for quite some time, but kept adding NON-detergent oil (cheaper)when it needed some. Then got the bright idea to change oil and used detergent oil. Motor blew the nexy day /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Oil passages clogged with gunk.
BTW I think I was 17 yrs old.

I wasn't asking about brand.. but type.. detergent vs non-detergent. Many brands still market both. ( and deffinately did then ).

Hmmm, Just think it is interesting that the threads bashing Fram oil filters and praising the expensive synthetic oils grow at a much faster rate than this thread about oil related engine failures.

My ford 8n uses a fram filter... previous owner used fram in it as well... for umpteen years.

Motor is still original.. no rebuild. Engine holds 20-40 psi (cold / hot ) on sae 30w. Tractor is 52 years old... fram can't suck too badly...

Soundguy,
Same here on the fram stuff. However it seems we are in the minority /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

There's been 539 people view this post, as of now. 24 replies and just a few oil related engine failures. Some admitted human error. The other couple was most likely that too. Very interesting, since the oil threads get so hot /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Billy:

That's cause my 57 chev is faster than your 57 chev and as I use the right oil and filter I never have an engine problem. Now if you use the same stuff I use you'll never have no problem neither and your 57 chev will go just as fast as mine.

You forgot that my 57 is white and your's is black. The way I see it, the sun heats the black paint more than white. When the hot air rises from your black 57, it causes more wind drag /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BillyP,
I think this thread VS the filter/oil threads says something about human nature. Not sure what, just something.

You're right slowrev, I don't know either. I guess we could blame it on human nature? Everyone would like to think they bought/buy the best out there but who knows. The way I see it is...if you buy something (tractor, oil filter, oil or whatever) and it works for you, bravo.

It's like me saying I like pinto beans and cornbread and the next person says they taste terrible. I'll go ahead and eat my beans and cornbread and they can eat whatever. Just don't try to tell me they don't taste good. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
