Hey Kevin,
Sorry for the disappointment. Oilers sure made a run at them though. I remember when the canes made it into the finals, a lot of people around here thought it would be a fairly certain and easy win in 4, no more than 5, for the 'canes. Looks like your Oilers proved a lot of people wrong – congratulations - hopefully Edmonton can take pride in the fact they pushed it 7.
I am sure as you can tell from my previous posts I am not much of a hockey fan. I actually watched the overtime win last week here in Raleigh and the last period Sunday night. But, it took 41 years for me to watch my first match last night - from the first drop to the final horn. Prior to the last week or so, my hockey watching consisted of clips and the top 10 plays on Sports Center.
After seeing some hockey now, let me say one thing - those guys are crazy! My gosh, people talk about race car drivers having a pair of big ones, but those guys – sheesh! It is like watching two teams made up from the likes of Ronnie Lott, Art Tatum, Dick Butkus, etc. I have a theory that hockey players DO NOT have a high pain threshold, they just don’t know what pain is. The hits/checks are brutal – I would gladly drive Talladaga before I would even put a skate on the ice with those guys. It’s like Richard Pryor once said, “he don’t give a !@#$ about himself, so, what’s he going to do to me!?”
Was unbelievable when the announcers were talking about one of the guys that got a concussion in game 5. He wouldn’t go get it checked out because he knew what would be found, the concussion, and he would not be cleared to play the rest of the series. That’s a real man.
I have a new respect.
Eddie
