Hi,
we are looking to upgrade from our 26HP Tractor.
Dealer support really makes or breaks a deal and have to say Kubota has shot to the Top of the List.
Sat on the MX5400 and did really like it, talking to the Sales Guy. The HST Pedal is somewhat a concern, so he showed me the Grand L.
Wow that HST is totally fine, don't really need all the other upgrades. So my Idea, can we swap that Pedal over to the MX Series Tractor.
Anybody done that?

Thanks

Perhaps your options are - the MX5400 or the Grand L. I would put my money on - swap is not possible.

The MX has mechanical hydrostatic transmission control, the Grand L is electronic.
Swapping the pedal is not a practical option.

Not possible, but I would spend more time with the MX mechanical treadle to get acclimated to it. A lot of people operate them the wrong way and it feels awkward. The easy way is to operate forward with your toe on the front of the treadle and heel on the floor. Then operate reverse with your heel on the rear of the treadle and toes on the floor. You are pivoting at the knee, alternating heel and toe on the treadle/floor. If you try to use it like one big pedal (as the Grand L operates) then the mechanical treadle will seem awkward and uncomfortable.

I am often surprised how many people have trouble with this. Perhaps it made more sense in the old days when the treadle was under the floor and you just saw the front and rear pads poking up through the floor. Nobody ever tried operating that like a pedal even though it was the same deal, just visibly different looking.

I have the mechanical (MX5400 style) pedal on my B3350 and find it OK but would prefer the JD two pedal style.

I also have a Grand L6060 with the servo controlled pedal which I do not like aside from the fact that it requires little force to operate thereby reducing fatigue.

No, interchanging pedals is not a viable option.

I might add that you will almost certainly like the HST+ transmission used in the Grand L series once you become familiar with it.

I have had two Grand L's,I just pick my foot up and use my toes for both directions.I also have a JD mower with two pedals, easy switch for me any-way.

after using my new MX 5400 for 3 weeks now the pedal is not an issue. I was super concerned about it coming from a 2 pedal New Holland hydro static design but after several hours in the seat it is really not a concern any more. I tried to pick up the pedal with my toe for reverse but it takes to much effort on the MX 5400. so just do like the diagram above and you will be good to go. the L series has a larger pedal so you can use your toes on that machine to go in reverse by lifting up on the front. you could probably simply take pedal off and fab up a bit larger bracket for the front if you want to be able to use your toes to lift up on the pedal. but it really isnt a big deal using as designed now that I have gotten used to it.

People really need to drive the tractors as that is the only way to evaluate them.
