I still use some old DOS programs. Do all my bookkeeping on it and all my financial records. Simple and it works.
I was the go-to PC guru back then. Established the first office network. Insisted on Ethernet instead of the TokenRing that HQ told us to use. A couple of years later my little Ethernet world integrated flawlessly into the Ethernet that HQ finally began, I had gotten it right. But now years later after I'm retired I keep a generation behind the current technology. Win7 until its no longer supported, etc.

And related: You know you are getting old when you go into a thrift store and see duplicates of all the stuff you bought new years ago - and the stuff in the store is in better condition than what's in your home. :) I got a big laugh out of another customer once when I told her I was buying an as-new Revere frying pan so I could go home and tell my wife I had worked an hour polishing her favorite pan.

No more true POTS lines?

The POTS lines from the telco office to the subscriber are still analog, what few of them still exist :). IOT's (interoffice trunks) are IP

Not just that but what used to be copper drops installed by the various Bell systems into customers' homes is now being sold off to locals as fast as 'new ATT' (SBC) can find suckers to take over maintaining all that old copper.

Times change. We had an email account, from a local ISP that got sold numerous times to ever-larger companies in the time since I first subscribed in 1995. My wife insisted keeping that email because some of her old friends insisted on posting to her there instead of to our more recent Gmail. Finally starting last December, my Gmail reports that it can't find that successor ISP's mail server to import from. I tried logging in and that ISP now returns Not Found as well as Firefox warning me about dire risks from attempting that. The heck with them. I decided to not inform them when I told all our other contacts of our credit card's refreshed expiration date, and just let the account die. I hope they don't send me to Collections or something.

Nah, you're just getting old. Your parents/grandparents probably said the same thing about your music when you were young.

I wish that was the case around me... there's no options anymore, radio is near dead in the Portland Oregon area... there's ONE rock station (they even have the audacity to call themselves "Portlands Rock Station") aside from classic rock and "everything" stations and they seem to favor 70's to 80's music, any '90's music seems to be of the same flavor as the older stuff and they repeat it as if it was the latest and greatest stuff out, they play one song that's under 10 years old that I ever catch. Don't get me wrong, I HAD nothing against what they play the most, but I've listened to the same 15 songs for 30 years, it's time to mix it up... My favorite rock station that I'd been listening to for like 20 years ago changed to a talk radio station about 8 years ago, of all days they chose noon on April fools day to change... drove to work listening to rock, got back in the car to go home and it was talk radio... I've complained to 105.9 The Brew a few times as it's the only option, I keep telling them no one I know can stand the same stale music but they keep playing it, their excuse is because they are hits or classics. How many times can you listen to Crazy Train before you go crazy?

So, I miss radio I guess... I actively want to listen to the radio when I'm commuting but I'm constantly switching between 6 presets and can't find anything... I had 12 presets on my other rig and still couldn't find anything... Until I get a new stereo in my new daily driver though I'm stuck, it's only got an AM/FM in it...

^^^^
I tried Sirius for the same reason but am finding that they are just as bad. And while it is ostensibly "commercial free", they simply change the name to "promos".

XM Sirius or Fm they all play the same 10 songs over and over again . In work we listen to the radio all day long some times 14 16 hrs. I'll say huh when was the last time you heard this song , across the floor you,ll hear about an hour ago.:rolleyes:At home on the cd changer I can put in 10 cd's and that will give me about 100 songs and last around 8 hrs. 750 CD's gives me a lot of music.:cool2::drink:

I don't have one at home, but I really appreciated the olde one I came across staying at a resort up Nord over the holidays.

Electric hand dryer - if I could remember the brand, it would probably be familiar to many of a certain age..... metal case, rounded corners, white porcelain. Big chrome push knob to turn it on, and a big chrome nozzle that swiveled up or down.

AND, IT PUTS OUT GOOD HEAT !

So many of the "new improved" modern hand-dryers are flaky about turning on (or don't at all.... Mickey Dees) and a gaggle of mice breathing hard could probably produce more hot-air than what many of these put out.

I don't recall one of those old porcelain beasts not working well, including in some places where they were getting beat-on hard....

For what it's worth, I just had one of those big old white hand dryers with the big chrome knob break in one of my buildings last week. The knob stem broke in half. There's a skid of them somewhere where they go to die.

As tough as they are, they waste electricity because they're on a timer VS motion sensor. They're being replaced with more efficient units. We'll see how long those last, though. The white ones were built like tanks. :)

The way that all of those hand blowers really work is that you get tired of standingthere with wet hands and wipe them on your pants.

When Jerry Brown first became Governor somebody started putting stickers on the hand dryers:

"And now a word from our Governor".
