I am trying to figger out a PHD that was my grandfather's. It is red, if that helps. it has two long poles with holes in the ends that i assume mount under the tractor. There is no top link that I can find. There are two brackets on those poles that are adjustable and they are about 3 feet from the end. Also, it is possible that look like they might go into the lifting arms. HELP, it has not been used in about 20 years and before I attempt to restore it, I would like to get it hooked up.. thanks for any help. jb

I have seen ford 8N's and 9N's with two long arms that bolt/clamp onto the sides of the lift arms. The auger and gear box was then mounted on a bar about 4-5 feet behind the tractor. This would allow the PHD to extend further back and no 3rd link required.

Looks like its almost intended to be used manually.

the 2 bars would connect to the tractor were the lower 3pt arms do, then the pto, then you would lift it up or press it down into the ground. Im shure something could be riged up with some chain (to the top link location) to keep it "up" durring transport...

with a little fab work you could convert it to a modern setup style...

what if it was ment to mount directly to the lower 3pt arms.

so the purple things are some sort of strap to go around the lower 3pt arm

I know this is an old thread but...

I was offered a 3pt PHD that is an old, gear driven model. I looked at it yesterday and it's in really good shape but...

It was built under the same concept as this. According to the experienced rancher who had it, where the middle "clamps" are, is where you attach the 3pt lower links. His has an upside down U shaped part in line with the lower link attachments that goes to the upper link. The front end of the lower arms attach to a bracket bolted to the tractor under the axle housing just inside each rear wheel.

I'm out of town visiting family (where the PHD is located) and can't look at my tractor. My ??? is if I would come up with a bracket (thinking larger sized angle or channel iron) to bolt under my axle housings to mount this beast to? It looks like a nice, heavy duty unit.

He called his a Dan Ussa? Don User? Something like that...brand. Course he recommended that I just get a handheld, but I need to do some holes by myself, so I think a handheld would be too combersome. He also suggested I could get a new 3 pt hitch setup and toss the system with the bars that go up to the axles.

I'm not familiar with something like that either. Unfortunately where I'm at all I get for internet is slow dialup on a borrowed old laptop that is slower than the dialup, so I'm running out of patience with searching the net. I drove my truck/trailer down to pick this up and am leaving tomorrow. I don't really want to load it up and take it home only to not be able to use it and have to bring it back (I get it as long as I don't sell it...) PLEASE HELP?!?!?!

Sounds like what he has is a DANUSER (if its yellow-might have a tag on the inside of the gear box or an arm), we have one that fits on our Ford 8N tractor. I have looked at it hard and don't think I could get ours to fit my John Deere 4500 CUT. My grandfather paid $100.00 (maybe) 36 years ago for it, and works fine to this day. The downside to hitching to the 8N is it takes about 45 minutes to attach, so we plan out what we need to dig.

I would consider adding the larger angle to your current tractor (if you feel that is possible) under the fenders or ? I think if you start cutting on the arms/etc it will make the unit for shifty and wobble.

Don't know if this helps? Does he have an 8N or similiar tractor you could use or see it attached?

The unit is yellow, but it has been painted, including the ID plate. I'm sure you're right on the brand. He has an old Ford, 8N-ish tractor that he was using it on. Problem is I live about 1 1/2 hours away. He has a working cattle ranch, so he won't let go of the tractor too. If it takes 45 minutes to mount, then I don't think I really want to deal with the current mounting system. I'll need to use it a few holes at a time.

His suggestion was to remove the actual gear box and auger from it's mounting system and place it on a new mounting system bought from Tractor Supply or somthing. I've not seen anything that would work, but I haven't gotten a chance to look. I'm back home to my fast internet now, so I can start searching. Having used one, do you think this might work? My impression is that the PHD is seriously heavy duty and I'm not confident something that TSC sells would be able to handle it! Am I wrong?

My dad suggested building a new mount. He's got plenty to do already though, my brother is a good welder, but he's getting married this year and has too many other things going on and I can barely make a blow-torch work, so I couldn't do it either. By the time I paid someone to build one, I might as well buy a new PHD. Just thinking out loud here...
