Old iron's not only durable and strong, they are also fuel efficient compared to the modern tractors of today. I don't know why ??? but as fuel prices go up and the worlds in to building greener vehicles????? the old tractor are much fuel efficient. for e.g.- to plough a land with a Massey Ferguson 135 cost 3000/= but with a new modern John Deere 5047D (47 HP, 3 cylinder) ploughing cost 5500/=. The MF 135 was built in the 70's and the JD built in 2012. "Old is Gold". And not to forget they are easy to repair. :)

I agree about the fuel. My 29 hp gasoline Ferguson used considerably less fuel than my 28 hp Mahindra diesel.

My tractor and boat are both going on 35 years old. I use what works, and nothing less. My main driving rig is now 20 years old, and would drive it cross country with no thoughts. It's all in the how you take care of them.

25 years? Old?

I have shoes older than 25 years (good ones too as I still wear them occasionally). I've been out of high school for over 50 years. I recently gave away a 1952 Ferguson that I USED for over 25 years. My motorhome is over 25 years old. I just traded in my 25 year old Toyota for a new one.

You better think twice about what you refer to as 'old' you young wippersnapper. :)

I too prefer new at my age.
If your married should your wife be worried

I love my old '56 oliver super55. That old gasser starts up every time and can run my pulling implements or bush hog way better than my JD or my previously owned kubota could. Once that governor kicks down and pours a little extra fuel into the carb that tractor just gives a grunt and continues to pull on through.

Tractor may be old technology but its got live PTO and hydraulics. No 4wd or power steering but I don't mind. It's just keeps on singing it's happy song going back forth across the field.
