Pull the whole casing up? Is that possible?

Then what?

Then you can take out the sucker rod and disconnect the pump and service what needs servicing and replacing.:D

I was under the impression that you wanted the pump out. :)

The pump is screwed onto the bottom of the tubing. The piston [plunger] is inside the pump. No way does it come out with just the sucker rods.
The tubing should be hung from the wellhead casing.:)

Get yourself about 40 ft of PVC tubing, feed a cable or heavy cord thru the tubing and rig a noose at the end.
Pull on the cord to tighten the noose around the sucker rods.
The more you pull the tighter it will get,
Haul it out.
Sort of like the way they slip a noose around wild animals to capture without getting close.
Should work OK.
Good luck!

PS; I used this method to remove coons from my attic with a 12 ft pole. Also fished objects from lake bottom.

the setup is a single pipe casing with several wooden sucker rods joined together. I thought if you pulled up the rods they would pull up the piston?

Would the well wall collapse if the casing was removed?

This is something a lot different than I've heard of but that don't mean much.:confused:

Was the well pump in operation when the rod broke?

Yes, previous owner was having the leathers replaced when one of the rods broke.

No telling when this happened though.

Any chance this well was drilled, not cased and the tubing and pump run down the bare hole??

Might be why the sucker rod broke when the previous owner was trying to pull out the plunger?

There is only one two-ish inch pipe with a sucker rod coming up the middle.

Here's a picture of the setup.

This is a better picture.

Now, the farm is about an hour away so I can't run out and check it out... But in this picture, you can clearly see the casing coming through the concrete floor.

If you look at where the pvc I have going down where the sucker rod goes.... It looks like the pipe the pvc is going into is a smaller diameter than the casing?

Could this be? Could I have this all wrong, and there IS an inner pipe with a sleeve attached at the bottom like yall are saying?

The size difference is pretty small if it is at all different... I won't be able to get another look at it until Friday...
