I'd bill what it costs me. My time (find out what tow guys rate is) + cost to tow away.

Richard - How's the TVA's credit? Maybe you should have them fill out a credit app/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. The whole point is.......Are you comfortable you'll get reimbursed?? Or maybe.....getting rid of the eyesore is worth the effort you may have to expend to get reimbursed?? Is it possible to get anything in writing? C

I've thought of that angle and spoke to wife. Told her that how do I know that TVA wont' adopt the "tough" what you gonna do now" attitude (nce it's gone).

I thought that, and decided I'd move car to the farm UNTIL I was reimbursed...THEN would have it towed away... I still might do it that way.. this way, if TVA balks on me.... FINE..I'll just put the dang thing back!!! /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I DID ask the TVA guy if he'd fax me "instructions" on what he needed and his fax number to send the data (as some evidence of their knoweldge of this).. he just said to grab a pencil..

I do NOT get a bad feel about HIM... but you never know. I DO want to keep my guard up.

Hmm..nothing like getting yanked back to reality, hadn't thought of that angle!

It's temping to screw the TVA for all the aggrevation they've caused you & your neighbors by submitting am inflated bill for the removal of the car.

You may or may not get away with it. Do you hire yoursef & brutus out? If not, how can you justify your hourly rate? I'd donate my time to get the car to the road. Chalk it up to community service.

Get the TVA to preapprove in writing any costs you will incur to get the car to the junk yard. Will the yard even take it w/o a title?

Good luck & happy tractoring

Well you want to get rid of it, right? I'd do it without expecting to get reimbursed, bill them, and if they pay it, you will be pleasantly surprised. The minimum benefit to you is that the car will no longer be an eyesore. You'll even get some cool tractor time in.

Junk yard evdiently will take it...in fact... almost seem egar to come & get it.

As for the community service, I don't mind that aspect as I'm the one that gets up after a windstorm type night and drives the road all the way out checking for fallen trees. If any, TRUDGE back home /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif & fire up Brutus to go push offending tree out of the road. /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

TVA has told me that what ever this bill is, they are going to go after the owner for reimbursment. So if that is accurate, then it won't be their nickle.

I'm not out to inflate the bill per se... which is why I asked.. but on the flip side... if 'Joe's Wrecker Service' will do it for "X" dollars... I don't think I should necessarily get any LESS just cause I happen to live close by.

The "expense" of me to drag car out is likely to be 1 hour and 24 ounces of diesel. The expense to "joes service" would likely be similar other than their time to get here. AND I'm orchestrating the disposition of auto....(as Im sure "joe" would)

So I'm trying to get an idea of what a reasonable bill might be. And yes, if in fact TVA goes after the car owner for reimbursment (who is now facing possible 5 years in jail), I'm more than happy to help teach him that stupidity (or criminal behavior?) has a cost. I WAS after all, willing to help him out personally and charge him $200. (NO one that takes their car in woods & burns it is going to get community service points from me!!)

I have a concern but don't know exactly how to express it.

There are two issues here:
(1) the legal issues associated with the removal of the car, and
(2) the cost issues associated with the removal of the car.

I believe that the cost factor may be the lesser of your concerns. If you take responsibility for calling the tow truck out and the truck has an accident while loading, transporting, or unloading the vehicle, do you incur any legal responsibility? I believe that I would at least have written guidance from TVA giving you permission to remove the vehicle.

Just something to think about.

I'm surprised the salvage yard won't come get it without charge in exchange for it being given to them without charge. Around here I get paid anywhere from $35 to $300 for old junkers AND they come pick them up.
