Sumner, MO? Wild Goose Capital of the World? If that's the Sumner you're speaking of, this is truly a small world. My wife grew up there. Her parents are right in town. We're up that way all the time. Sure would like to see that Big Bud if it's close...Best Regards,Jay

Jay, Yes it's one and the same Sumner with the giant Canada goose. The farm I saw that tractor at is about 3-5 miles south of Sumner just past the south border of the refuge. I haven't seen it for a while so I don't know if they still have it anymore. Do you hunt up there?

Small world!

I asked my wife about it and she remembered the folks that had it. They were related to some good family friends. She remembered that her dad always called it "Big Bud," but she thought it was only a nickname.

It was used down in the bottoms along the river by Widom (sp?). Lots of big fields down there, south of the levee. They shed where they stored it is still down there, but the tractor is long gone.

Here is a couple websites below for the Big Bud 747. The engine is mounted onto a skid type frame that is easily removed by a forklift for repair or replacement. The cab also folds back for easy access to the transmission.

Here's another big one. It's the Steiger triple engine, built as purely a prototype. It was basically three smaller ones put together. Things didn't quite work out, and of course no production models were ever built.
