One night of roudyness leads to cops coming every night

I know how you feel. I had a '98 Harley with turn out straight pipes. ONE TIME thru our town - second gear - pushing the rpm - breaking the sound barrier. The local LEO were waiting for me at the edge of town. Then it became - they would stop me EVERY SINGLE time I rode thru town. I'd go so quiet you could hear the tires kissing the asphalt. Finally - I would go the other way when I got to the end of the driveway and completely avoid going thru town. In my case there was one local LEO that told me she had a great dislike for Harley and was going to be stopping me - in town - every time she saw me. I got that corrected by talking to the sergeant but what a PITA for a while.

BTW - I gave the Harley to my son and now I ride a BMW. I got tired myself of listening to the exhaust for hours on end. Ha,ha - my son has put the original pipes back on the Harley.
Is there a noise ordnance in WA? The AMA is encouraging "voluntary" restrictions because unmuffled bikes have resulted in a rash of legislation by cities and states.

I never understood how anyone could think an unmuffled vehicle is OK.

If there was an actual report filed, its public record. Call and request a copy. It should say specifically what the complaint was, what the cops made note of, and sometime it even has the address of the person complaining.

Not suggesting a confrontation, but may be helpful to know just what the neighbor said, and just what the cops noted

Someone's watching you closely--I'd guess the neighborhood is pretty stable, older and established, so two years later you're likely still the 'new kid down the street', and someone is trying to be proactive and keep the decibels 'like they always were'. There may be a shift worker within earshot that does nights... may be some history of excessive noise and poor relations in the area someone's trying to nip in the bud, may be a young family with kids in bed by 7 or 8 that woke up crying, or even a migraine sufferer...
Eric's idea of getting to know your neighbors is a good one, and a tremendous outward gesture of good will whether people attend or not. Hand delivering invitations with some fresh produce, and mentioning--in passing--remorse about the noise complaint, the ongoing LEO problems, and how you wish you hadn't lit up the tires and started the cycle would likely break it. A lot of effort to do so, but worth it if it troubles you, and you change from the stranger down the street with the loud truck to the nice young man that brought produce and extended a courtesy. It may be the LEO is from the neighborhood or has a relative nearby--or very little to keep busy.
Then there's the truck--is it too loud? There are people that love to hear loud noises. I hate noise, from barking dogs, to loud bass, to spinning tires, and the motorcycles designed to make tons of noise--I don't get that anymore than them hooking up a 100db stereo to try and hear over their own noise, but to each their own. I make excessive diesel, equipment, and tool noise sporadically, but try not to fire anything up before 7am, and have everything quiet by 7pm.
Different strokes for different folks usually has the credo: so long as it doesn't harm me or people I love.

I'm sure there is some form or other of noise legislation is WA - probably even in the county I live in. My advantage is and always has been - I live way out in the country - far side of nowhere - and since my closest neighbor is miles away - any noise I make only bothers me - as it should be.

The loudest street legal vehicle - car, truck or motorcycle - can be driven quietly. It all depends upon the operator. The exhaust system I had on the Harley was completely street legal - its just how I operated it that could bring on the noise. I drive a BMW motorcycle now but I still enjoy the sound of a Harley passing me under full power.
As has been said many times - different strokes for different folks. You live in an urban area or any area with neighbors close at hand - its always best to fit in with the group.

I'm just not a very good groupie - so way out in the country is the best place for me.

I think my approach in this situation would be to drive the truck to the police station and see the chief or whoever is up the ladder of authority. Explain that you feel you have had unwarranted complaints regarding the truck and have him come out and take a listen to the it. He/she would be the one that puts a stop to frivolous noise reports.

The kin folks said, "Jed, move away from there."

I dont agree with those that suggest moving.

You should not be getting harassed for doing completely legal things on your own property.

If a neighbor dont like something you do, but it is legal, THEY are the ones that should move. And not waste taxpayer resources filing bogus complaints.

Heck, if there is no noise ordinance or law that states otherwise, I'd do more burnouts in the driveway.

I live on a hundred acres. I slept with my window open summers for decades. Then a neighbour a quarter mile away got a hound dog! Just about drove me berserk, until another neighbour ran over the dog, as the owner just let it wander around! You really need a LOT of separation to avoid noise. Certain times of day. sound really travels.l

i got a really good deal on my dog kennel from people who moved up from "out-of-state" to get away from barking dog complaints... then found that their new neighbors also didn't appreciate listening to a golden retriever barking at all hours of the day or night.

It sounds like the OP has already tried to get to know his neighbors, as he helped plow them out last winter.

If I were certified street legal and not breaking any laws, next time the cop came I would tell him to get off my property and never come back or I would be filing harassment charges against him and the police department. Then your lawyer could legally get the name of the person calling and file harassment charges against them too. Be sure to stay inside your house when talking to the cop and don't come out to talk to the cop. You can do pretty much any verbal thing you want and they cant do a thing to you when you are inside your house and they cant come inside unless you allow them so they have no choice but to leave. You may want to consult your lawyer prior to doing anything at all but you need to do something to get back in control of the situation and put the complainer in his / her place.

This might not make you a popular person in the neighborhood OR with the cops but if they tried to retaliate by stalking you trying to catch you doing something wrong, you could really stick it to them then.
Just being passive and letting the neighbor and cops take you down isn't my way of doing things.

Go Pro in cab will help you back you stories, not a lot of cost in that and can turn it on when or if you get pulled over and use it when pulling the sleds.
I agree with LD1,I would lay it down in driveway again if wasn't no law in doing it:laughing: and those who suggest moving heck no,forget those neighbors who's calling. We are not here to make the neighbors happy,my neighbors have there flaws as do I,we both live with it. I have to listen to their loud music maybe once a month, they have kid with a cummins with a straight pipe, dirt bike that makes a bunch racket,I don't care they just having fun. Now I may get even for the fun of it at 6am in the morning but it's all in laughs. We live pretty out in the country and sometimes the other neighbors tractor can be heard shredding, louder than the kids radio night before. The guy put chicken house's in down the road and the 18wheelers again louder than the kids next door.
Gary said it,you may not be most popular with the cops but if your doing nothing wrong, don't stand for it. I'm sure the cop in kin to or really good friends with someone and trying to show his badge. Like stated take ride down talk to sarg about the visits you been having
