I live on a hundred acres. I slept with my window open summers for decades. Then a neighbour a quarter mile away got a hound dog! Just about drove me berserk, until another neighbour ran over the dog, as the owner just let it wander around! You really need a LOT of separation to avoid noise. Certain times of day. sound really travels.l
We are a mile back from a major road and I can hear the traffic. There is a guy with a hopped up car with itty bitty tires up front and big ones on the rear that likes to lay rubber on that road. He can see a few miles in each direction so he can see if cars are nearby. What he can't see is deer. The wife got a nice eight point buck on that road a few years ago. Unfortunately it was with a car.
Both of these guys we can hear at least a mile away when they wind it up. We are constantly dodging deer on the roads around here. The guy is in a car so he might live if he hits one. The guy on the motor cycle runs a couple of miles at very high speed. I don't think he will live to an old age if he keeps this up.
One of the OP's neighbors has to be calling in to complain. The officers simply would not know if he pulled the truck out of the garage. Noise travels pretty far in the quiet country.
