In case you haven't found a spreader to fit your tractor, do a search for "Cosmo 29697" this is an adapter that allows a 3 point spreader to be mounted to "the old Farmall tractors".

Thank you! Another TBN member (KeBo) found one down in SC for me that will mount to my drawbar and is powered by a flexible shaft connected to the rear PTO pulley. I will take a look at the one you found. I'm new to TBN, but am impressed with how many of my fellow tractor owners have replied--including you. Real nice group of people.

I'm an old bluegrass musician, and have a fond affection for Kentucky, the home of Bill Monroe, the "father" of bluegrass music. What part of the Commonwealth do you work that Kubota in?

I'm in western Ky. I have been looking at 3 point spreaders and several "store brands" appear to be made Cosmo. I was looking at the selection at Agri Supply and saw the adapter and remembered this thread. I will probably end up buying a Cosmo "500" spreader locally.

We used to camp in Bowling Green when I was a teenager--some 40+ years ago. Pretty country. Big bluegrass festival in Owensboro each year. Never have been, though. I get the Agri Supply catalog; they have lots of things that can't be found elsewhere; lots of Made in USA products. I looked at the adapter, which was about $150, and the Cosmo 250, which was just under $400 (w/the pto shaft). What farm stores do you have in your neck of the woods?

TSC, Orscheln, Falders, Rural King. Orscheln has the best price but the unit looks like a return, paint faded and oil/grease weeping at seam on gear box. Probably getting one at Falders when weather gets a little better.

We have several TSC stores within a 25-30 mile radius of our place, but I usually just buy from the clearance section, or markdowns on grain feed, etc. I've heard of Rural King, but we don't have one anywhere in the State. Are the other two chains or mom-and-pops? Wouldn't mind the faded paint, but the gear box leak would be worrisome. Thought those gear boxes wee permanently sealed?

Too bad you don't have one of those adapters. Did a quick look at the Huntington CL and saw this 3 pt fertilizer seed spreader This is the type I use to spread fertilizer on my hay fields & pasture. Say's it was posted 10 days ago & reposted 4 days ago. I'd hate to offer $250, if I didn't want to bring it home. Even splitting the difference would be a decent buy, if it's in good shape. Not sure how it would do seeding. Never used this type for that.

Have you ever stopped at a Southern States..?? I see there is one in Huntington & Point. Used to go passed one in Maysville, KY on my way to my sister's, but they moved to a new location, and don't go passed it anymore. I do order my garden seed through them, as they have everyone around here beat hands down. Like $2.00 per pound on beans & sweet corn, and they offer free shipping on garden seed. The banner above on the site says $50.00 minimum, but when you drill down to the online shopping cart, everything I've ordered says it qualify's for free shipping.

Were you able to spread lime with it? And if so, was it pelleted or fine ag lime? I've stopped at SS a few times a few years back, when we were still in the looking-at-farms stage. And the annual 4H Special Lambs Project in our country (my son participates in) is sponsored by a local SS dealer. I take my mother to see a physician every 2 months in Huntington; may check out that SS next time. Our local feed/seed store, Casto Farm Store, which is about 8 miles/20 minutes away, carries a good supply of garden seeds that he hand bags; best corn, hal-runner beans, zucchini and yellow squash, and greens you could ask for! We picked until late October this year, and let the horses finish it off. BTW. What part of KY is Mayesville in? We used to live in Boone County, which was only about 60 miles from the WV/KY line near Williamson. My wife's family, from Wyoming Co., married into the Hatfields of the famous feudin families from our 2 states.

AG lime won't go through it. Dad tried years ago and it just bridges over. The opening is not large enough, and not enough agitator. Pelleted lime will work, as it's similar to fertilizer pellets. But as mentioned, pelleted lime is only good for one year, were Ag lime is good for 5. In the long run, you may be better off to hire someone to spread Ag. lime. That, or look for a drop type lime spreader. I've got a mini version of a fertilizer spreader like the fertilizer dealers let farmers use, to spread lime. It needs some work, as it's getting in pretty bad shape. It has a stainless steel web drag chain in the bottom, and like a 8" X 8" adjustable gate in the back, and an approx. 16" spinner on the back. Holds about 1,000 lbs., and perfect behind one of the Super C's.

Maysville is right on the river, and approx. halfway between you & Cincinnati. I take Rt. 68 into Lexington, then head south on 75. It's only about 10 minutes longer getting to Lexington, than going 75 through Cincinnati. Worth it to me to stay out of there, plus enjoy the scenic drive. Lots of horse farms along that route, old and new. Some tobacco farms along there too. A few smaller towns to get a cup of coffee, or bite to eat along the way.

My Sis & BIL lived in Davin, WV for a while. That's where he grew up. Pretty rugged country there.

I'm hearing that from severl folks, about the ag lime. My local farm store will drop the ag lime for $40 per ton, with a 10-ton minimum. My soil test results recommended 2-3 ton per acre, and I barely have 3 acres of horse pasture. I have a couple of ols Scott's push spreaders: one drop and one broadcast, and I recently bought an old Craftsman broadcaster with stainless steel bucket. Can get 50lb ag lime locally for $2 a bag. May just try to get the wife and nearly-13-year-old son to spend a Saturday morning here in a few weeks spreadin lime! Are you interested in sellin that ag lime spreader?

I'd much rather take a longer route thru rural areas than shorter routes thru cities and vi interstates and 4-lanes.

I am familiar with Davin. Have an elderly uncle that married my mom's sister back in the early sixties; he and his family grew up in Davin, and migrated to Boone County to work in he mines. And I've been thru Davin a coulpe times as an adult, but not in years. Just like most country in that part of the State: two hills, a creek or small river, a two-lane county road, and a railroad track--and houses, churches, rocery stores, etc, built wherever you could squeeze on in. On he biggest flats you might be able to grace half a cow!
