Only in Texas, Don and Harv doing

A cool 92 degrees in Texas and a nice day to pour our first beam. This is the most concrete that I have attempted to pour at one time ever, using 80 pound bags. The pour took one and a half hours, 19 bags and five mixers full of concrete. The beam is 8" at top and 10" at bottom and 10" thick.
This is our setup.
(Oh, when I say "our" or "we" it means wife and I. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif)

One more mixer load to go....

The plywood on the 1"x1" (on the right) was used during the wheelbarrow pour so the concrete would not spill over the other side. It worked well.

(That metal thing in the background is the wife's project. We will get to that later in the thread.) /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We then rounded the edges and smoothed the top.

I put in the bolts in for the doorway purlin connector.

Tomorrow we will pull the framing and see how we did on the 2"x2" ledge. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

19 bags in an hour and a half? I probably couldn't even pick 19 bags in an hour and a half; much less mix and pour. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Now there is a good piece of information! I always enjoy learning about nuts bolts nails and fastners. I really got an education on screws (no jokes guys!) , thanks for postiing the pics and explaining. I have seen these types of screws before but didn't know what they were for.
