Now there is a good piece of information! I always enjoy learning about nuts bolts nails and fastners. I really got an education on screws (no jokes guys!) , thanks for postiing the pics and explaining. I have seen these types of screws before but didn't know what they were for.

Don,
Loking at your plans, why do you have 2 doors to the storage room? Seems to me I would go for one really big door, like if you are tryng to put in an extra freezer or a sofa, or big pieces of plywood, or something one big oversized door would be handy. Two doors really breaks up that wall and limits how you can arrange the room for storage. Also how about a skylight for that room? Don't see the point of the window being placed next to the golf cart shed, but it is your building. I'm only thinking out loud.

Rox, thanks for thinking out loud. You have good questions.

The reason we have 2 doors is because the room will be divided in half by a row of shelves. The large item you mentioned will not be in this storage, except for maybe the plywood much later. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif That's the current plan anyway, and all plans are subject to change till it is done. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Because of the blaring sun, the roof will be insulated. The skylight will be a source of heat, in the enclosed storage area, more than a light source.

The window by the shed is a south window. The shed will shield it from the sun and allow the prevailing southerly winds, to cool it on a hot day.

That's the plan anyway, thanks for the questions. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Don, I've been lurking when I can and I am amazed at your stamina. (Folks, I can't tell you how hot and humid its been but I think I saw a mockingbird using a pot holder to catch a bug.)

How much concrete are you going to use? I'm sure you've thought twice about having a truckload come out??? Unless your trying to save money and quit your Gold's Gym membership. (You can skip this week's appointment.)

I wanted to say that I put the aluminum bubble foil under my tin on my covered back porch. It was the best money I've spent in a while. It keeps you from baking underneath on a hot day. I highly recommend it.

Anyway, your wife is a trooper for helping out!

Kyle, yep, we are partners. We are starting a new phase in our lives - working together, /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif, for the first 30 years we were usually on different shifts.

I will also be using the same type of aluminum bubble wrap, unless I can find something better.

A truck will be coming out for the 9'X21' slab for the storage area. The reason for the "manual" beams is to save time on the big pour day and to get a little experience making a good ledge and edge. I like to take my time, when I can.

Bird, This beam was on the high side of the carport. The north beam will be thicker (taller) and we're am going for a new record for # of bags on that beam. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I got a Bull Float from Craig's List for the slab. All I have to do is figure how to use it properly before the big pour day. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Don - what kind of bag crete are you using? Last weekend we mixed and set an 8 X 10 X 4" thick slab addition to the well house. It was going to take near 40 bags of standard bag mix - but a fella at McCoys in Bastrop turned me onto some stuff called "maximizer" 1 cu ft per 80 lb bag ... sure cut down on the mixing and I see no difference in the end product. I hand mixed 22 bags - 2 at a time - in the tractor bucket then just dumped. (for those of you doing the math -- it wasn't quite 4" thick /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif) Bernice handled the water hose and the finishing trowel. ..... maybe what we need to do is get these girls together so you & I can just sit back with a bock and supervise /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
