Got a few quotes on Kubotas this week from Anderson Car & Tractor in Joplin, MO . The first two quotes were for tractors I have since ruled out (L3200 and B3300su). The third quote is:

L3540 HST
LA724 loader
QA 72" bucket
Bolt on cutting edge
R4 tires
$24,300

If I were to choose R1 tires, subtract $521. He would fill the tires with washer fluid at cost, couldn't tell me offhand how much that would be.

What do y'all think? Sounds pretty reasonable to me, really. The other tractor I'm interested in is actually the B3030, but I'm leaning more and more away from going that small. My current tractor is an L4300 2wd gear, so this would be quite an upgrade and even though it has less hp it would have a stronger loader and higher overall weight. Overall size would be about the same. I definitely don't want bigger, and the next step up (L3940) is a size larger.

Thanks for any input.

FYI, the 3940 is the same chassis as the 3540, just with a 4cyl diesel. (roughly 300 lbs heavier....)

3540 is a nice tractor for sure, are you going to get them to add rear remotes and a 3rd function? I just ordered a 3940 with two remotes and a 3rd function for a grapple.

4240 would put you up in a larger chassis though. Might make sense to check out the 3940.

The 3940 is interesting, however according the Kubota website its dimensions are larger than the 3240/3540.

The 3540 is a really nice tractor. When my wife and I were shopping, we started out looking at the 30-35 HP machines. There was a 3540 sitting beside a 3940 and getting on and off, the 3940 "felt" bigger, but not by much, we decided to go to a 50 HP so didn't spec them out for comparison.

Is there a difference I need to consider between 3 cyl and 4 cyl? I think all the tractors I've been considering have 3 cyls. My current tractor has a 4 cyl.

I won't be having any additional hydraulics installed. For my purposes, I would never recoup the added cost.

We bought something pretty close to what you have spec'd at the end of last year. L3540 HST, 724 FEL with 72 QA bucket, R4 tires. We had one rear remote added - we ended up at $24900.

We really like the 3540. My wife was out tilling yesterday and using the ratchet rake to prep beds for blueberries and raspberries.

I had checked the quote with Barlows and asked my local dealer to match it. They did. I think your deal is pretty good IMO.

Try the Kioti dealer in Vinita, Oklahoma......you should look at the Kioti DK35 or 40sehst models....more standard options...faster hyd....better warranty.....just to name a few things....plus I really like their service.

The DK35se was 19300 here, with just the one remote and the KL351 loader, But I have heard of people getting better deals than that elsewhere. The DK40se was 22495 but most are paying about 21500. If you can get along with the size. that thing has a horse of a loader on it.. 2760 lbs.

You will probably find different opinions on this as I have seen it debated on here before. I don't really have a preference and just go by performance.

I'm going to look at Kiotis for sure. I just know my next tractor will be orange. I've ruled out the other colors (I shop for everything by color). Those prices are pretty compelling. James did you say your loader is TOO fast? I usually use mine pretty slow, wouldn't want it moving too fast and bouncing everything around.

It is alright, it is just "snappy" and a little bit faster than the L3400, which was pretty fast.. I noticed a difference in the DK40se they seemed a little slow to me..I guess the larger cylinders take more time to fill up. It is a very minor thing. I am used to it already.

Went to S&H today to look at some Kiotis. I like the size of the CK35! It felt more substantial than the Kubota B tractors. It felt awkward to sit in, though. I also liked the DK35. It seemed like just the right size, plenty of ground clearance but not too big. The only thing I didn't like was the loader control. I'm real skinny, but my leg was still in the way of full curl position.

I got an ugly price from the salesman. $22k for the DK35 HST, $23.5k for the DK40 HST. It seems to me like he was trying to steer me up to the DK40 (which would be awesome, believe me, but the size is just beyond what I want). The loader on the DK40 is such a jump in power that it almost silly not to get it. But anyway.

It seems to me like the Kubota dealer struck out with what is probably pretty close to his best price, and the Kioti dealer quoted a price he could negotiate from. The Kioti price included R4 tires but no cutting edge. The Kioti guy said he'd never sold a tractor with R1 tires and a cutting edge, so he's supposed to call me tomorrow when he finds out how that would affect the price.

I went to the Kioti dealer thinking I was wasting my time but needed to do my due diligence, but I really liked the tractors (still have not test driven any of the tractors in question). But then the price shocked me so much that for me personally, if those prices are stiff, then the Kubota would be a no-brainer. Everyone might not agree on which is better, but for me I'd go Kubota for that price difference.

So tomorrow I'm going to test drive the Kubota, and if the Kioti guy calls me back I'll probably swing over and test drive that one, too. Then I'll have to work on hammering down a final price from both dealers.

Observations: liked the fit and finish and styling of both brands

Without having actually used them, I'm guessing I would prefer the two-pedal HST operation vs the treadle pedal.

I don't know if I could get over the loader control on the Kioti. Has anyone replaced or "fixed" theirs? They got it right on the darn CKs!

I thought "Orange Crush" meant you were looking at KTM's.

The GrandL treadle can also be used as a two-pedal device, since it sticks out extra wide at the top for the forward position. This is how I use mine, I do not like the treadle either. You can kind of see it in the picture. Took me about 5 minutes to get used to it. Philip.

We have tractors with both treadle and twin pedals and for us it is pretty much a wash with an ever so slight preference for the treadle. It wouldn't sway us one way or the other. Some have reported hitting the wrong pedal with the side by side arrangement and my father in law actually put his in the pond this way when he first got it, but for the vast majority it's a non issue. Once he got accustomed to it, he really like it.

Drove a Kubota L3240 today at the lot. Uh, I liked it! Spent several minutes playing with the various features of the HST+ and using the loader control. Having used it, I really liked the treadle. The other pedals -- brake and clutch -- were all wrong. The tractor still felt a little too big. I like the size of the Kioti better, and the operator station on the Kioti felt really good. I much much much preferred the loader joystick on the Kubota.

Dealer recommended I forget the 3540 and either get 3240 or 3940. 3940 features bigger tractor and bigger price - same loader and 4cyl (dealer prefers 4cyl).

James will be happy to know that I LOVED the hydrostat.

All prices include R1 tires and quick attach. I decided to forgo the cutting edge. These are also the financed prices.

L3240
$21,979

L3540
$23,559

L3940
$25,099

The ONLY time I ever use the clutch is for starting and engaging pto. The brake pedals are on the wrong side, but this keeps you from braking and engaging hst at same time. I hardly ever use brakes for stopping, just let up on the hst pedal. I do use them in lock position when on trailer. The only time I have really used the brakes is when plowing snow. If I need to brake left or right tire, I set cruise control, then brake left or right as required. Philip.

If I could get that price I might go for it. I'm going to call the dealer in Vinita tomorrow. Are you getting used to the joystick crowding your leg a little bit? The HST was just what I'd hoped it would be: smooth to engage in forward or reverse and easy to adjust speed on the fly. I liked the HST+ features, although I'd probably spend almost every minute in Low range anyway since my place is hilly and bumpy.

That's a good point about the brake pedal setup.

Can anyone explain something to me about the telescoping links? Do you slide them out to help hook up, then just back up the tractor once they're attached? You don't leave them extended with an implement hooked up, do you?
