Ordered a 2022 Ram 2500

I think they got forced out of the 7.3 business from government mandates. I don’t think international designed the 6.0 to make the power Ford pushed it to either. Why they never put a Cummins in those trucks is beyond me.
I read once that Dodge had Cummins bound in a contract that prohibited them from offering their diesel to other brands.

I think that is right, at least for pickups.

I read an article years ago before computers that Ford had the exclusive rights for the 3.73 gear ratio from Dana. Dodge wanted it, so in '03 they switched to AAM. No clue how true it is.

You don’t get it. Dodge doesn’t build trucks. Ram built the truck the OP bought.
Ram=Dodge. Not sure why they changed the branding on the trucks, 'most everyone I know still refers to Chrysler's trucks as Dodges.
???
Maybe in your neck of the woods. Here's a photo I took about 3 hours ago...had to make a 357 mile trip, towing, today, and you can bet my old Dodge/Cummins was the truck I used.
Eek!!!! Gas here is about a buck and a half cheaper than yours. Diesel more or less the same as you.

It's a testimony to the quality of Super Duty trucks in general for the line to have survived the 6.0 and 6.4 diesels.

I have two 7.3 SDs. One with 270K miles, one with 150K. I wouldn't trade either of them for a Ram.
Oh boy, you just don’t realize how much better the Ram Cummins pulls a load. I realize trucks do more than just pull loads, but I’m not kidding when I tell you the difference between my Ram 5500 and my F-550 is night and day. The truck itself is just as nice, if not nicer than the Ford. Ram gives you an incredible list of features, even with the Tradesman line.
Dont test drive one, you’ll forget your Ford forever. I was like you, thought Ford was the best. Then I went over to the dark side. No plans on coming back. Pulls so strong, loaded with comfort features. Really comfy seats.
20 years ago, a 5.9L Cummins would easily outpull a 7.3. today, a new Cummins 6.7 will outpull a Ford 6.7. It’s the in-line six configuration. It makes more torque down low and off pedal than a V-8.
Also, get better fuel mileage and give you a true medium duty rating doing it, too (y)

You know things are bad at the local GM dealer when the only vehicle on the showroom floor is a used 2017 GMC Sierra pickup with a SOLD sign on it!

Nice looking truck though.

Those that downplay a dodge heavy duty diesel with the 6.7 simply haven't used one to haul heavy loads. Those comments would not be made if they had.

Never had a 6.7 and at my age, probably never will. My 5.9/6 speed manual will last me the rest of my life.

I’m thinking real hard about a new HD diesel truck. It’s always been a 2 horse race Ram 3500 SRW w/ Aisin 6 speed ( unless Ram has come out with an equivalent durability auto in an 8-10 speed since the last time I looked) or an F350 w/10 speed.

I was leaning Ford because of the 10 speed ( and what I’ve seen in reviews, the better fuel economy) relative to the Cummins/ Aisin combo. I’m a fan of the Cummins (mostly due to the BT-4 in my backhoe-just bulletproof) and friends who’ve had nothing but high praises for its durability and performance.

The comment in a prior post caught my eye relative to fuel economy- I think it is relative to F-550 vs Ram 5500 so I don’t think it’s applicable to the F350 w/10 speed vs 3500 w/ Aisin 6 speed but wanted to confirm.

Haven’t been to the Ram build site in a while as I’m waiting for the chip logjam to break before I get down to the nuts and bolts of ordering. Is there some indication of Ram offering an 8 or 10 speed ‘Aisin-like’ auto in the 2500/3500 diesel in 2022 or 2023?

The F550 doesn’t get the 10 speed
The Ram 3500 pickup doesn’t get the Aisin. It previously got a Chrysler transmission. Ram now offering a ZF-8 in lighter Cummins trucks. Should be a very good transmission.
Dont know what the future transmission will be in the 3500-5500 chassis.
Have heard of troubles with Ford 10 speed.
No contest for me. The Cummins engine and the Ram truck are nicer and more capable. The HO Cummins is sick

Im aware of that-I was just wanting to confirm that the comment regarding better fuel economy was specific to the medium duty trucks. There are so many sources of ‘fuel economy’ comparisons that I wanted to make sure that there wasn’t something out there relative to the F350 v 3500 that I had missed.
