Ordered Ammo for a gun I don't own

I was just thinking. I bet firing a 9 mm inside is loud as ****. I may open a window in the morning and fire off a round and see what the wife does. I'm guessing no pancakes or waffles for a while.

Well, I can tell you this. firing a 6mm rifle in the house is the loudest thing you have ever heard. My dad did it while I was in the kitchen cooking hamburgers. He fired it out an open door. i came off of the floor at least a foot. Probably why I cannot hear well in my left ear. I would recommend NOT test firing any firearm in the house without very good ear protection. The damage is cumulative. If the time ever comes to HAVE to fire a weapon in the house, that is one thing, but doing it just to "see" is foolish. Take my word for it, it is BAD.

The "one shot stop" is rare. There are many, many cases where police have hit a subject 2,3,6 times or more and they keep coming. Now some of them may be high on drugs, but you could run into that also.

OTOH, researchers (Kleck and others) believe that in over 90% of the times a gun is used in self defense, NO shots are fired, the mere presence of someone able to defend themselves sends the bad guy looking for easier targets. In that situation, any caliber or bullet type works well.

Should have been more clear...when I wrote "Once a bad guy is shot...", I didn't mean one shot....it's as many as it takes to stop an attack. I hope I never pull gun out for self defense, but if I do, I'd probably empty the cylinder or magazine before I stop...this due to the adrenalin that will likely be pumping thru my veins...

The old question:
"Why did you use 6 shots to kill that intruder"?
Answer:
"Because I didn't have any more".

How's the sore back doing Roy....

Still an occasional twinge, especially when I first get up. After a few hours of activity, most of the twinges abate.
Thanks for asking!!!

Got my ammo and guns this week. Not sure any amount of practice will make me proficient due to shaky nerves but I plan to try and get decent with them. I have a S&W Model 19 357 magnum I can kill a running rabbit with but this little 380 will never shoot with that kind of accuracy.

On the subject of 380 ammo every review I saw or read on the Hornady FTX Critical Defense was positive.

When I picked up the gun I bought a box of Winchester ammo to use first. Tried to shoot from 7 yards and wasn't too good so I moved in to 5 yards. I fed about 25 rounds of the Winchester ammo through it then tried some of the Hornaday. The Hornaday ammo seemed to be more accurate but I am shaky as **** and can't blame anything on ammo or gun quality. Never felt like the gun was going to jump out of my hands or anything close to that. It felt quite comfortable to me with the pinky extender that comes on the stock magazines. They also give you a blunt bottom if you want to change it.

This was my last 5 rounds I shot with the LCP II. Not great but I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end. If I could get it to hit this close without having to concentrate I could probably defend myself with it.

The other gun I picked up was a Savage 64F 22 rifle. I got the cheapest one they had. The magazines are terrible quality. Sharp metal edges on the bottom and right where the bullets lock in. First time I loaded the mag I poked a hole in my finger pushing the bullets in and then I poked two holes in my hand sticking the mag in the gun. As soon as they were empty I took them both in my garage and rounded off the sharp corners and smoothed the edges. I have read that they have some jamming issues with a full mag. I wasn't able to push ten rounds in by hand so I didn't really have any feed problems. Tonight I made a magazine stand to hold them while I load and used a small screwdriver to push down on the bullets. Maybe not as good as one of the speed loader options but it worked and I got all my mags full for the next time I test.

Had a heck of a time getting it sighted with open sights. Not sure why I bothered because I had a scope to mount on it that covers the open sights. Ended up tapping the front sight about an 1/8" to the right to get it centered on the target. Even firing on a rest I was tending to pull the gun sometimes. I got it decent but need more time and practice.

Just as a note. There is no more practical .22 semi auto rifle made on this planet than a Ruger 10/22. Sure you could build a more accurate one if you tried, but even as they come from the box thay are very accurate. Their magazine is the best .22 magazine made. It is a 10 round rotary mag. Very easy to load and utterly reliable. Of course larger magazines are available ans even other brands have utilized this magazine because the design is so good. This rifle has been in continuous production since 1964 with probably hundreds of variations. I have two of them set up different ways. All IPSC/USPSA shooters have one or more of these rifles to shoot for fun and practice 3 gun cheaply. Of course there are thousands of modifications and 3rd party accessories available for these little rifles. It is just endless. If you can tell I think highly of these little rifles Whether out of the box or highly modified, you would be right.

I think Smith and Wesson has really tapped into a growing market with their EZ products. Us Baby boomers are a large demographic and our hands are not getting any stronger to pull slides and load mags. I suspect others will follow suite pretty quickly.
I have a MP9 and a MP9 Shield. Like them both. I really like the idea having an EZer pull slide but I don't think I am a fan of the grip safety. I will stick with what I got for now. From a CC perspective the EZ seems a little heavier and bigger. The rail isn't an issue as my CC shield has a Crimson Trace laser fitted and that is all I figure I want.

The other nice thing is, the Ruger American Rimfire .22LR rifles use the same magazine ....which is really handy (& part of the reason I have both).

Good point! I have the same rifle...with the threaded barrel and is very quiet suppressed with subsonic ammo (Gemtech makes great subsonic .22LR)
