Ordered Ammo for a gun I don't own

Good point! I have the same rifle...with the threaded barrel and is very quiet suppressed with subsonic ammo (Gemtech makes great subsonic .22LR)

That was/is my plan as well ...just haven't gotten around to getting a silencer/suppressor yet (be nice if they went ahead and remove the NFA paperwork requirements).

Though even without that, having both is really handy on those rare occasions that I find some ammo that doesn't want to feed through the 10-22. I actually need to replace some parts on the 10-22 because I've put enough rounds through it that some of the springs have gotten weak.

...and if you can find one of the 10-22's that uses the same interchangeable stock system as the Ruger American Rimfire rifles.... (parts compatibility & interchangeability can be such a nice thing)

While you're replacing parts, might want to replace the stock buffer pin in the receiver. The stock is steel and, as you know, the receiver housing is aluminum. I wouldn't be surprised if you've already done this, BTW.

One reason I chose the Savage over the Ruger is the receiver is steel. So far I am happy with my choice. I fired a full mag through it and it performed as it should. So far my only complaint was the sharp edges on the magazines and it took all of 2 minutes to file them all smooth and black the shiny with a sharpie.

I may yet order a speed loader but the holder I made from a chunk of wood and a small screwdriver makes loading much smoother and doesn't take that long.

The 380 Hornaday ammo I bought through Academy doesn't show an option to reorder so I might have got the last of what they had. It does show available from other sources. Not sure I can afford to target practice with it at 80+ cents per round. The problem is it does seem to shoot more accurately than the Winchester ammo I bought. That is probably just my inexperience with the weapon and ammo choices though.

Time and practice will tell.

Yeah, steel is definitely nice, but the 10/22 has been manufactured since 1964...and can't say I've ever read about receiver failures.
I did a couple mods to my 10/22 takedown. The buffer pin was one...I also added a bolt hold back kit. I reckon I should do the same to the 10/22 compact as well...just don't shoot that one as much.

yes I have :D --- in fact that was one of the first things I had to replace as it broke in use - no wear on the receiver though. I believe I replaced it with a hard nylon one (it's been a couple years), and shortly after I saw a method of using a steel dowel inserted in tubing. Definitely enjoy the broad aftermarket support for the 10/22 - even though I mostly use Ruger parts.
