I'll probably modify it somehow, maybe put something on there to make it more visible. It has an adjusting nut on it.
I agree, before tweaking the rod I would try a wrap of tape/paint first.

Congrats! big stuff in a person's life; it was for me.

Same day mine was delivered, I started using the backhoe to dig up a rock I'd been hitting with the mower for years. Figured it was a good way to learn. Turned out to be the size of half a VW bug...

I built a pole barn for it and other equipment after it was ordered. Checked on the tractor height specs to make sure the bay door was big enough. Forgot that it was a lot higher when the BH is folded up. Both bay door overhead trim pieces are dinked up. lol.

Best of luck.

BE SAFE!!!

Yeah, ballast is a biggy. When I got my new LS-235 a couple of years ago after using my JD-770 for 20+ years I definitely cleared my sinus's when --testing-- the bucket. Had I not had my seat belt on I'm pretty sure I might have launched myself over the hood. The hyd's are like 3 times faster then that little JD.

By the way, congrats on the tractor, you have the re-newed tractor model. The old ones, 230, 235 and the 240 models where identical except for the power. From what I read LS updated/combined those models and now all the MT2 series are under the same umbrella. A lot easier to figure out what tractor is which series now.
I so like the new headlights, mine looks like a big spider is looking at you. They are bright tho.
Thanks for the response. One thing I don't like about the MT242H is the engine oil dipstick. It is in a bad spot, and is hard to find and utilize. I'll probably start a thread on things I like and don't like but need more time on the tractor to do so effectively.

On mine there is an curve in the rod that sits in the bracket when the bucket is level. If you twist the bracket (jam it into a pile of brush) it is not correct. I occasionally (or when I know it is off) place the bucket level on flat surface and adjust the bracket to align properly and lock it down.
I'm not gentle to my machines when I need to get things done.

That's what I was thinking too, I have some red duct tape that I thought about using.

Is it not right in front of the starter and you do not even have to lift the hood to check it? Makes it easy to pre flight. Check engine and hydraulic oil before start up.

Thanks! I am also starting to to put together a lean-to plan for the tractor and trailer.

No need to lift the hood, but it is in a difficult spot.

You get used to where to stand and how to hold you hand. Way better than under the hood and reaching over or through the loader arms to get to one (My Kubota). I really don't want start it to raise the loader and hood before checking.

There is no standing to reach this one, it's buried, and almost impossible to see. You have to crouch down to try and find it, it's ridiculous.

It get easier, I still need put a chain or cable on mine, in case some brush reaches out and gets it. Not yet in over 2 years but.....

If brush gets to this one, it knew its exact address, and drove there on purpose.

I'll have to take pics, but they would be hard to interpret and explain. I went to look for it on the tractor, couldn't even find it, came inside to look for it in the manual again. I was in the right spot, but it is very difficult to locate.

Most all are in a bad spot. Seems to be an afterthought. You may not like your dipstick location but you'll have to get in line. Better to say that you like it but like it less than other things. That's better. ;)

Sounds like they didn't change it on the new ones then, mine is kinda of a pain when you try to look for it after too long a time.
On my version the bucket level rod is straight and has a little u bent in it that sits on the holder when the OEM bucket is level, but I have a couple of different colored tape wraps to show where my 3 in 1 bucket sits level and my forks.
I kinda wish mine was the bent one as I actually am afraid of poking my eye out on the end, I'm 6'3 and it gets too close for comfort when looking around the engine sometimes.

Read the owners manual first even before starting it to get familiar with the controls, and maintenance intervals.
My Kubota L6060 has a compartment behind the seat for the instruction manual. It has come in handy several times when I was working away from the barn.

Congratulations on your new tractor. Like others have said, slow and steady with it. Good luck!

All the service points on my LS came with white paint on the tip of them, really helps things stand out against the black when looking for them. I appreciate that little detail. When it wears, I touch up the white.

I did not grow up around tractors and slowly learned with an older Ford. My first two tractors were basic tractors. Manual trans with no loader. Next tractor with loader for farming and two with hydro trans. One fully loaded. Two tractors with cabs and rest open station. Cab and open station each have their advantages and disadvantages.

You have been given a lot of great info. Start slow, even with rpm's. It is not only ponds to worry about, ditches or any drop off. Study the four-wheel drive on when to use it and when not to. Short, not on hard surfaces, will damage the system.
Check the air pressure, tractor tires can look good due to stiff side walls with low air pressure. Had a tire to pop loose using it one day due to this. Glad it was my smallest tractor and using it slow.

Play with the brakes, if manual trans learn how to use them to help with steering on slopes and to turn with them. If hydro trans, well unless going downhill and needing to slow or stop is only time I use them on a hydro tractor. I think it has been pointed out only the rear tires have brakes so if rear tires don't have any grip or poor traction such is heavy loader load and stopping...may not have any stopping ability with the brakes. In such a case drop the front end loader. If moving fast and you have the time left the contact of loader to the ground be gradual so not to stand on the front end.

One thing I did not notice I am really working on in my family. You have a 14 year old daughter. As you learn teach her and your wife. Yes they can be a great and really enjoy it. My wife a young 69 has been learned front end loader and I think doing a good job. The more they learn the more they will appreciate the tractor and attachments. I do not think there is anything better to learn to drive than a tractor without front fenders as low speeds and you can see how the steering works with the front tires where that is not possible on a car.

On protecting the grill area, if you are moving brush with it do get strong sufficient grill on it. It does not take much of a branch to cost you several hundred dollars. This is one of those ask me how I know things.

On PTO, you don't want to be running high rpms when you engage if unless it is manual engage as you then can engage slowly. Slamming the pto system with high rpms with some with electric and maybe hyd engagement has had impact on that sytem.

You will be amazed how much you are able to do as you learn your tractor and equipment. Take care and be safe.

Thanks sir! We are really enjoying learning about it and using it, and you're correct, LOTS of good advice here from all the experience.

Both my wife and daughter have driven it, and my wife I instructed her on how to use the FEL. She drove slowly down the road as my daugher and I tossed in big rocks. Had her keep the bucket low, then had her dump it off in an area in part of the easement no one accesses.
