Thanks Brandi,

Of course, you know how wacky the Southwest issue is here in DFW. It's got to be the silliest thing I've ever come across. No Southwest flight originating in DFW can fly out of the state.

When I lived in California, I flew into Austin on Southwest and I've flown to other places on Southwest Airlines quite a few times. It's a great airlines with some of the best prices I've come across.

It's just crazy that I can't get a flight out of the state of Texas in my area on them!!!

Kent, unfortunately, I'm not the one going this time; just my daughter and her finance (husband now). They got married Friday evening and will be back home in Ft. Worth tonight; kinda fast honeymoon trip because she has to be back at work in the morning. In the meantime, we're keeping her two Maltese dogs so I have to take them home this evening. And we went to Gatlinburg in a little Winnebago motorhome in late June, 1973, then down to Cades Cove and up to the summit of the Smokies, over the other side and up the Blue Ridge Parkway up past Mt. Mitchell. We were back there and stayed in a motel in Gatlinburg several nights in late June of 1979 or 1980, I think it was. Anyway, it's been close to 30 years since we've been to Gatlinburg, althought we've been back and forth on I-40 through Knoxville many, many times enroute to the southern tip of West Virginia to visit my wife's family.

And yep, I think that would be a very good area to retire to.

Eddie,
Thanks for letting me know you started this thread.
All I have to say is WOW, what a vacation you guys had. I can't believe the area and places you covered. For you guys not familiar with what Eddie did, He must have traveled over a thousand miles easily...probably closer to 1500 miles.

Those photos you have are truly wonderful reminders forever of your trip. You've got some beauties of all the landscapes. BTW, I stole some of those from your visit (thanks hahaha). Loretta and I sure enjoyed your visit to our place and I can't believe how much snow there was in Sequoia that day. You were lucky the highway was open then ... I didn't even think about it.

One thing I have to say is what a great looking couple you and Steph are, and your kids are gorgeous! You are a lucky man, Eddie!

Eddie,
Oh yeah, I forgot about the Wright amendment at Luv Field. I fly out of HOU, so it doesn't effect me. I understand. I used to hop over to Austin to catch the non stop to Vegas. Now it is non stop out of HOU. The Wright Amendment is slowly going into the sunset. In a few more years, it will be gone forever. So then y'all can fly SWA.

The stewards made a big deal about it and gave them special treatment. Then after landing, they gave them their "wings" with the United logo on them. It's funny how much they enjoy things like that!!!

I want you to know that I STILL have (somewhere) the wings that I got on my first flight as a kid. I don't know what they look like now, but mine were gray metal, about an inch and a half long. And as I recall, it was a pin.

I've got my Pan Am wings from 1964... and yes, it was a big deal!

Even as I have been working on airliners since 1985, I always find it exciting to fly on them.

Yosemite is one of those must see places, so we made a full day of it. The weather was perfect, but there had been some storm damage to the roads. In two places, they were partially washed out and under construction. Luckily for us, it was the slow time of the year and traffic was good. We had a great meal at the lodge, saw some of the waterfalls and went on a nice 2 mile hike.

Eddie
Eddie, many thanks for haring your vacation details and pics with us on TBN. I read every post and looked at every pic and enjoyed them all. i gotta ask though, when you and Steph visit a watefall does it bring back memories of your wedding? Maybe guys arentl like that but when I see a pic of a waterfall i always remember you and steph geting married at Boulder Falls. Well I guess I think of it becasue I had the plesaure of suggesting it to you.

You know if you wax the bottoms of the sleds they will really fly. You Texans might ot know that, but I guess Eddie you are origionally from California so if you were form the high elevations you are experienced in living in snow. We Wisconsinites (e former) get ready for winter fun by waxing our sleds and skis.

Hi Rox,

Yes, waterfalls always remind us of our wedding, which in turns reminds us of the process of how we found Boulder Falls. When we travel, we willd drive a few hours out of our way to see one, or hike an hour or two. There's is just something magical about them!!

I'm from the SF Bay Area of California, so snow was somethng that we had to drive 4 to 5 hours to see. I used to snow ski about a dozen times a year when I lived there, and when I was younger, my parents would take us RV'ing to the snow once or twice a year. I never heard of, or even thought about tryng to make a sled go faster. They go too fast as it is!!!! hahaha Mostly, we used to brind inner tubes and build slides down a mountain with turns and jumps in them. I liked building and digging in the snow more then riding the sleds.

I'm glad that you enjoyed the pictures. Steph took a thousand of them and posted 400 on her myspace page. She's a little wacky in my opinion, but she said that she couldn't delete any more and they were all keepers. I think I posted 42, which I was worried might be excessive.

Eddie
