So a couple general notes not aimed at anyone in particular.

If you've been on TBN long enough learn and understand that we are a group of peers, and that there are many good people here with decades of knowledge and experience, I think using terms like "hater" and "safety police" etc, are way out of place. It sounds like it's coming from a 17 year old girl who's trying to feel better about herself and dismiss somebody who trolled her Twitter feed. If my dad came over and chewed me out for being stupid or unsafe with some equipment (which happened many times) I wouldn't dismiss that, I'd listen and learn. If my wife suggests I am doing something stupid (which happens all the time) I listen and learn. When someone on TBN who has "been there and done that" gives feedback, I listen and learn. There are many smart, experienced, humble people here on TBN and we have a really honest, frank, helpful system of what I'd call "peer review" or "family review". People call it like it is. You don't have to agree with it, but I think you should be open minded to listen and not be dismissive. There is always someone on TBN with experience/knowledge that you can learn from.

I've been on here about 6 years and have learned a lot. In fact, I consider TBN one of the most valuable knowledge resources available for living the rural life. I realize Youtube is a different world, and so maybe we're seeing a clash of cultures here, I don't know. But there are a lot of experienced folks here on TBN who have been doing the rural tractor life for multiple decades, and I hope people can be respectful of that and are able to listen and learn.

Never mind that though, some of the smartest people I know are the humble farmers who live on my road and those guys have been living the rural tractor life long before the internet was even a thing, before TBN or Youtube. That sort of puts things into perspective for me.

There’s a difference in the safety police and pointing out real safety violations. Real safety violations. Going down a hill in 2wd. Driving around with the loader high on unlevel ground. Pulling above the drawbar on last century tractors. Not very dangerous safety violations. Using the FEL for a man basket. Drilling a hole in the rollbar. Pulling above the drawbar on a modern tractor with a FEL. That’s not intended to be a complete list but that’s some of the more common ones. Haters definitely exist. It’s not such a big problem on TBN, but go look at the comments on YouTube or Facebook.

Deerslayer,
You mentioned not having a U Tube account. Neither did I till last week, but it was the only means to invite Mike to join a discussion that centers around him and his channel's theme. Kinda like having a birthday party for someone, and no guest of honor. I apologize in advance for making Connecticut an example, and NY has little margin to criticize, but much of the theme of rural living has been the exercise of our personal freedom. I can fire a gun right from my rear deck as can Mike. So interjecting a little humor, you mention hunting in your post. With the limited options in CT, do you find the classic slingshot to be a truly effective tool? Freedom: enjoy it while it lasts, ask Mike about the basketball hoop, government permission story.

The safety police stuff is growing tiresome. Mike has a positive approach. If the content annoys you, or even scares you, then tune into 2nd half's cooking channel. Find link in previous posts. Caution: stoves might be HOT!

Since this is now the unofficial Outdoors With The Morgans Youtube Channel Thread here is a video I made today of a very easy and cheap way to move water if anyone could use the info.

No offense taken with the jab to CT. Like everywhere, some good and bad here. Fortunately, I have been blessed with having a place where I have the ability to shoot from my deck as well (and fortunately with implements that are a tad bit stronger than my slingshot)
Where abouts are you in NY? I used to belong to a deer camp inside the blue line...right near Long Lake.

Mike,
I like watching your videos because you seem like a regular guy who doesn't claim to know everything. Like most of us you have ideas and you try things out to see if it works.

I'm also very interested in your thoughts, both good and bad, on the new tractor. I will be in the market for a new tractor within the next 2 years and the RK tractor will definitely be in the running.
Keep up the good work!

Good comment and I agree with most of it, we are now having a real discussion like normal decent people. This confirms what I have said all along. The internet is a great resource but it brings out the worst in some people. Don't know why but it does, I guess because it takes the face to face out of the conversation. For example you said I was "not to bright", a "poor example" "clown show" plus several other things Then I find this thread and respond to the comments regarding my channel and when I talk about haters you say thats way out of place?

In retrospect I would say my choice of language was not too good, both in the sense that it wasn't friendly and it probably undermined my message. And since you don't know me and we haven't talked face to face, it probably came across harsher than I would have intended. So you are right to criticize that and I apologize.

Don't let it distract from the main points though -- log splitters, even with the turtle pace of these hydraulic units, can turn on you in the blink of an eye. Most log splitter injuries are to the left hand, and many to the pinky and ring fingers. Way too many pinch points, and there are even cases where the wood itself can pinch/trap a finger. My injury (smashed ring finger) happened between the log and the end plate. A neighbor smashed his pinky finger when a piece of white oak began to spread apart and then slid up off the wedge and closed back up with his finger in the crack. So it's very risky to have the left hand anywhere near the wedge or wood when the ram is moving, in either direction. After educating myself on this the hard way, I now consciously move my left hand to my left hip when it needs to be out of the way.

Mike,

I've been a sub to your channel for awhile. I've watched or at least partially watched most of your videos. Kudos to you on your videos and editing. You do a nice job and present a professional looking product. For me, some of the redundant intro stuff is nice, but doesn't add much value...I normally skip though it to save time...that's just my opinion. I appreciate the good camera work, lack of wind noise, and high-speed scrubbing through the boring redundant stuff. I like short and sweet videos myself, and that is what I try to do with the occasional video I post to my channel. Unlike you, I'm not really looking to grow a channel, nor do I want it to become a full-time, or even a second job. For me, it's just a small byproduct of one of my many hobbies. If you can make your point in 4 or 5 minutes, that is a great job in my opinion. I really like unique, thought provoking, or problem solving content. Your latest of the pond siphon is a good example. It's a concept that most of us in the forum understand, but maybe overlook the practical application.

Regarding your RK deal and regardless of the criticism it's probably a deal virtually no one on this forum would turn down if offered. The great thing about YouTube is freedom of choice. If you choose to make content that your subs don't want to watch, no one is tying them up in front of a computer and forcing them to do so. In my opinion, an initial walk around video of the equipment, with a follow up on performance, likes/dislikes, warranty issues at some point down the road is good content. In the interim, just good thought provoking videos of projects and ideas that have gotten you where you're at, without being a daily or weekly RK commercial will keep your loyal subs watching. Good luck!

I can understand what you are saying. When I see Reality TV shows or youtube programs about the business I am in they don't interest me. But then I realize that I am not the target audience.

Youtube videos such as Mike's are really helpful for guys like me that have little or no knowledge of what you and your neighbors do on a day to day basis. Without a mentor, neighbor or tremendous amount of time to learn, guys like me have to rely on guys like Mike on Youtube and you and others on TBN. I am thankful for the information and if any of you can make a few bucks in the process all the better.

I will continue to watch it.... and see if it changes to a infomercial or if he stays true to useful and reliable reviews and info.

I believe he will stick to honest reviews....

Atchuuu,
Agree with your comment regarding the targeted audience. Mike's intentions appear to be instructive. He doesn't pretend to be the premier authority on any given subject, but is merely sharing his experiences with folks that find his content helpful. Very unfair to label Mike as an attention seeking showman. I believe he made his position quite clear. If somone possesses greater knowledge than the instructor, don't waste the class time by enrolling in the course.
