Are you talking about the load check valve.

Did you or the hyd shop find the problem?

Yes, when I pulled it apart I found the mushroom like head was not plunging in and out well. I cleaned it with WD40 and put it back. Took it to the hydro shop to have them test it and it was fine.

Now that I'm working it I'm finding the boom will creep down when I go to use the front end loader. No visible leak in that cylinder and it has plenty of power. I can keep it up if I put the pin in to the boom to hold it as if I were transporting it. Number one cause of leakdown? I would think seal.

Thank you for your help!

So now the boom creeps down when I go to use the FEL for a few minutes....any ideas on that? Plenty of power, no leaks. Maybe sitting for 2 years put a curse on this BH..?

creep down could be either piston seals in cyl or bad control valve.....Best to troubleshoot before jumping to conclusions

More common for piston seals in cyl when many hours are logged in cuz they do wear out...

Control valve could be a more expensive problem but if the control valve was the issue then replacing just the troubled section (looks like a Gresen V20??) will cure the problem (this is assuming the control valve is the trouble).......changing hoses to a good known valve section will tell ya fairly quick if it's good or not

Was there any evidence of water entering the hoses or in the hyd system??.....

Is the boom cyl stretching out when it is creeping??...

It could be cyl seals or a leaky spool.

The spool is the only thing that blocks the fluid when the valve is in neutral.

So the weight of the boom is pulling on one side of the cyl, and pushing on the other side of the cyl and spool.

You can check if the cyl seals are leaking by putting a needle valve on the the hose that will have pressure in it when the boom is up. Then close off the valve. If the cyl leaks down, then you know the cyl seal are at fault.

No, the boom creeps down when the dipper is pulled in and the boom is all the way up. Basically the way you'd use it when you switch to using the FEL.

I realize the boom is creeping down....but is the cylinder itself extending when the creepdown is happening

I'm thinking it's a "pull cyl" to lift boom up, making it possible for the piston seal to be n/g or the nut loosening on the end of the hyd rod (also common problem)

doesn't take much debrs in a spool valve to prevent proper function.

glad you found it

I'll have to look at it. It does retract when the boom is pulled up. The piston is down inside the main boom so I'll have a closer look. I'm also going to check out the linkage to the spool connection. I found I had an addl. problem that contributed to the outrigger not working right which was in the linkage adjustment from the factory. I'm wondering now if the linkage to the boom is compressing the spool when I let go of the lever. I will be back over at machine on Tuesday and have a look.

If the seals were defective would the boom still have plenty of power? It all seems to work perfectly until I want it to stay up. Pretty much have to watch backing up b/c if I forget about it for more than a few minutes without reaching back and pulling on lever to pull it up every few minutes the bucket will be on the ground.
