I'm wondering how those of you heat your garages. I cannot imagine heating my garage and looking at my energy bill. Energy must be cheap back East.
The previous owner installed a regular house type 80,000 BTU oil furnace in the attic of my garage, I only turn it on if I am going to be working in the garage when it is cold outside. The temperature inside the garage seldom goes below freezing even when unheated. If I kept it heated all the time it would cost at least $100 a month for fuel - more than I am willing to pay.

Well, even though no tractor stuff goes in my garage I do have a heated 3-car garage. When I built the house 3 years ago I wanted the garage to be heated. I put in an electric heater with thermostat control. It's mounted up high with louvers and fans directing the air downward into the garge. The temp is controlled with a simple rotary rheostat thermostat. Pretty basic. Really not much more than an electric heater like you'd buy at any home improvement or department store but mounted up high in the garage designed specifically for heating garages, workshops, etc.

My tractors are in an unheated barn. All implements outside except PHD and whatever is on the FEL.

Building new house so by November '07 everything will be outside under tarps including me if I try to put my tractor in the garage:D .

But hopefully I be able to start the new barn this summer or at least get one of those metal carports for temporary cover.

So that's, what, three of us who store outdoors? I'm not sure what to make of that figure. I guess the three of us have underprivileged tractors. The poor things. I'm starting a fund for underprivileged tractors. Only you can help this unfortunate situation. A small donation could make a big difference. Make your checks payable to me, or Habitat for Tractors, and I'll start the process right here at home by building my tractor a shed. We can do this; one tractor at a time.

Inside..unheated shed.

Inside insulated garage, not heated unless I'm in there. My car is outside, my wife's car is next to it, she won't park outside in winter so she uses up my precious garage space!

Just about everything inside. Am putting up a 36 x 64 building later this month to give things an even better home.

BX1500 & FEL inside the 2 car garage next to my wife's car. My 1997 Jeep Grand Cheeroke with 180,000 miles on it.....outside. Tractor is worth more.;) Both the BB and RB stay outside unconverd.

Tractor is outside, it may be pricy but if it caught fire or the shop did I don't want to lose both. Neighbour lost a brand new 100 hp JD (about 80 K$) that was in his shop. The block heater was plugged in and they figure it malfunctioned somehow.

All my implements are outside too but if I had a 3 sided shed they would be in that.

The garage is attached to the house and the heat losses from house keep it above 60 most of the time. The house and garage are made of Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) and are equivalent to R50. The ceiling is R55. The garage door is R11 and between the house and the garage is R11. I average $30/month heating and cooling.

2 tractors outside, Garden tractor in garage with wife's car. Implements outside, My truck outside. Don't need heat in S Louisiana. Everything covered with tarps.

I'm sorry but this tractor cost me more than I have ever spent on a car!
From what I've seen if you take good care of your tractor they hold their
value down the road. None of my other TOOLS! get left outside either.
I'm really glad I have the indoor storage option.

That's funny, my wife and I talked about that subject today. I was saying that a lot of guys are in the same situation as we are (tractor and wife's car in heated garage) and she said: it's normal it's the way things work. So, N80 if you already have a garage but your wife don't want to let you park your tractor inside, my wife is ready to explain the situation to your wife. :D That's a beginning.

or else his wife is ready to explain to your wife why the t ractor should not be in the garage and that would be a step backward. If your wife lets you park your tractor in the garage I would not let her talk to anyone elses wife about tractors just in case. :)
