Buying Advice Overall best tractor?

   / Overall best tractor? #81
I did give the Kub dealer a fair chance to come up with something comparable but they just didn't have anything. I drove the one they did have and IMO the hydro pedal and brake placement suck. I guess you could get comfortable with it but if you drive an ehydro its over, case closed.

I drove an eHydro ... & then bought a Kubota Grand L3940

I did not think there was too much creedance to the fuss about Kubota pedal placement on the HST tractors. Since getting my New Holland, I think I do like the pedal layout(HST on right, brakes on left) on the New Holland better. I kinda liked the treadle type pedal the HST on my old B8200 though. The New Holland has side by side pedals for the HST.

I never really tried to use the cutting brakes on the Kubota though. I never found a reason for my property maintenance. And, after the many discussions here, I found I drove the lttle Kubota like I drove my Jeep; I ran some really hard trails with the Jeep and never need cutting brakes.

The TC40D I have now has Supersteer too. Between Supersteer and good power steering, this thing turns amazingly tight. I tried the cutting brakes too; it did not change the turn radius hardly at all. So, I have not used them.

Jumping between the two(I know the guy that ought my Kubota, and have visited it since I sold it), the pedal placement is not really a big deal. But, I am not in ice country, and I do not have to turn on a dime at the end of a row.

Its enough to keep you busy with whatever attachment you're working without fighting the handling of the tractor.

Same here except I bought an L5030, for me the JD pedal arrangement "sucks". I can see why some like it, I am just not one of them.

I am constantly amazed at those who claim an entire line of tractor "sucks" because of their own preferences.

If there was a "universal best" everyone would use it.

These seem to be closed minded people. As you stated, if there was a "universal best" that is what would be prevalent.

Thanks for the info on kioti dk40, I will look at it. Where are they made?

I think they are a south korea company. Think Daedong is the parent company if that means anything.

I am brand new here, but would like to know what you all would recommend for price and reliability and parts? I am looking for a 40 HP 4X4.
\

I see you are looking for a 4x4 but here is an example for the 3000 series Ford I mentioned. Know nothing about this one's quality or price however. Of the hobby farmer these can do a lot of work and will never wear out because of parts and service about anywhere but it is not a 4x4. This class of tractor may however bring more money 10 years down the road with normal care. #1 on any purchase is will the tractor do the jobs you expect of it.

I have been very busy, but still not sure what to buy, but I really appreciate all of your input. I think I am leaning in the direction of John Deere, but I will look at price when I figure out my preferences.

Dang, I thought I was having a hard time deciding what to buy until I saw that you've been shopping for almost 3 years!!

Yes, I have never stopped researching, but I had a few challenges along the way. I am ready to buy, but still need to make up my mind. Thanks for the reply. I have a Gehl Track loader for most things I need.

I am going to go look at a P7040 today, for a price of $50,000. It is new and comes with the loader. Full cab etc. This is a 97 HP 4X4 with 85 HP at the PTO. One review was not very happy with his, but what arer the rest of you thinking?

"Overall best tractor?"
That's a question only you can answer. The answers to the 6 or more questions like the following will determine your overall decision.

1. What do you want to do with it?
2. What space restrictions do you have?
3. What financial restrictions do you have?
4. Who are your closest 3 dealer/service centers?
5. Do you know how, and have the facilities and desire to do maintenance and repairs on tractor yourself?
6. Who's going to use it and what physical/mental restrictions do they have?

I have the P 7010 LS and while I am happy with it for what I do, it is a bit slow in reversing when using the FEL (have gotten used to the HST pedal on my Kubota B26. It all depends on what you are doing with it and what kind of transmission. I understand that they now come with a power shift which is best of both worlds (gear & HST world) in my opinion. If I were buying again today a powershift is what I would get.

I will research that so I understand it. What do you think of the 50 K price? Would you buy a new one or would you go for something else? That will be very important to my decision. What else would you change if you could? Who was the engine built by? The engine in this one is made by Fiat. Thanks for the the input!

At that price, you are $2k from what I paid for the new Bobcat V417 that I bought three years ago.

After owning one, I will never go back to a "tractor" :D

The 7' brush hog, much better out front

Never knew any thing like that existed, I will give it some thought, but not sure it will serve my purpose. Thanks for the input. I would like anyone who can watch the youtube video and give me some feed back. The dealer has dropped the price to 49 K.

Yep, that is why I am trying to spread the word! I didn't know about them either until 4 years ago when I saw one on eBay.

In Europe they are available with a 3 point lift and PTO. There is at least one company importing them here now.

Sorry, but I can't help you with the tractor decision.

What do we define as the Best Tractor? Its just like saying what is the Best car? to me, BEST means the best deal for the price paid. I don't expect to pay little and expect Mercedes quality, that doesn't happen with cars and sure as **** doesn't with tractors. I think you need to first analyse what you need it to do (how hard or light will it work) and then also the price, is it good gear for the price? or is it too high? .. I don't think there is such a thing as the best tractor out there, there are some high end ones for huge money, and then small cheap ones for light use.
