Owned Kub\'s X 17 yrs, NO MORE! Getting a JD!

Started in 1988 with a B6200, changed to a B7100HST in 1996 to move to a 60" deck, mostly used for mowing 5 acres, usually twice a week. Problem after problem with the RC60 deck! NUMEROUS castor wheels replaced, suspension arms broken twice, and mid pulley mount has broken out of the deck twice. Kinda beyond repairability. Went to order a new MMM for the tractor and NONE are available and Kubota no longer makes them! No other MMM is compatible! I'm SOL and, according to my dealer, I am not alone! Now the B7100HST was last made in 1999 and the fact that Kubota no longer supplies impliments is astounding to me. I'm getting a JD and, betcha six years from now, if I need a new MMM for my 2210, JD will have me one! My overall impression of over 2000 hrs in Kubota's over the last 17 years? Not all they're cracked up to be in terms of quality and reliability (current and past deck problems aside) and numerous components are very fragile such as radiator cover, seats and electrical system. Neither of my tractors had funtioning lights beyond about a month and the crap attatchments for the rear lights on the fender are a joke with the little plug in wires. Mechanicals have been mostly sound and performance for the price is adequate. Checked the backup for repairs for my local Kubota dealer: 4 WEEKS. Called the local JD dealer and fabricated a similar need help now story and he said he'd pick it up two days later if that means anything.

You will be very happy with the deere there a great tractor. But don't bet on everything being adaptable. I traded several deeres and each time I had to buy all new attachments including this past trade, I decided if everything is going anyway why not try the Kubota and deere would only give me about half for the trade. I found it odd that Kubota had more faith in the deere I had than deere themselves did. Nothing was compatable except maybe the mmm. Still a good machine though.

Good Luck

I've owned three Kubota's and still have a 23 year old B Model. This 23 year old B Model is used in my business and 30 shop mechanics use it every day to move trailers around our 4 acre yard. This little tractor is so abused I feel sorry for it. Yet 23 years later it's still going. My L2850 had 1500 hours on it when I purchased it. I put another 500 hours on it over 5 years. Never a problem, almost no repairs & always did a great job. I just ordered a new L5030 and expect the same. I'm sure JD is a great tractor but Kubota reputation comes from hours and hours of proof. Sure they may have some problems now and then but nothing that bad when you look at it in the big picture.

Enjoy your JD

They say the pasture always looks "greener" on the other side of the fence, 'till you get there and try it, that is. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Welcome to the forum. Hope you'll like your new tractor. Know why JD dealers demanded the factory paint their tractors green? Cause it's their favorite color: the color of money!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Maybe you should have stuck with the B6200. I just bought a used one and everything still works, even the lights.

djg, good luck with the B6200, good little machine. Hope you weren't planning on getting a MMM for it though! Tom H, green may be the color of money but tell me that Kubota did not take my money and run on to the next model line by not being able to supply me a MMM for a machine that's been out of production all of 6 years please.

Joe, you'll notice that those trying to convince you that you have made a mistake all own Orange.

I am not saying that Greene is perfect, but it is extremely well supported and has a solid history. I'm a relatively new tractor owner, but have been around them all my life. Never new a Deere owner who wasn't proud of their machine.

Well, this is a KUBOTA forum, so don't be surprised that all who have answered are Kubota owners. I also notice that he is a new member.. and obviously a motivated one.

good luck with the JD!

Re: Owned Kub\'s X 17 yrs, NO MORE! Getting a JD!

jeffinsgf, I have had a JD 216 , 4' front blade and mmm for 25 years. The engine still runs fine. The mmm has cracked numerous times. The hydraulics have been a big problem. They have fixed them numerous times. I can still get the mmm for it, about $1200 though. I like my deere, but that was 25 years ago. I just bought a B3030 Kubota. I shopped JD many times. I just couldn't justify the difference in $$$. I think it had a Yanmar engine in it. That really turned me off. They need to make the most important part of the tractor. I thought the Kubota dealers were more down to earth with me. The JD dealers were really PROUD of their goods. I still talk to the person who sold me my JD. They dropped JD because they called them a "dictatorship," and didn't want to deal with them anymore. Time will tell.

Is this someone trolling? I dont know but i have owned and operated JD, Kubota, Ford (now NH) International, Farmall, AC, Case, and so on. And they all have a little something happen. Its the nature of the beast. Just like automobiles which won is better. It all comes down to personal preferance, what experiance you have had and what options suits you better. Also preventive maintenance goes a long way to. I now own a kubota, The 2nd in the past 5 years. The tractor does the job it was purchased for. Will I have problems ? Who knows. But i am willing to deal with that. My dealer would pick it up tomorrow if I had problems with it.

Personnally I wouldnt go and bash any tractors on forums. I wouldnt go to the JD forum (or etc) even though I have owned a couple. (great tractors by the way) Mine were a little older and post what you have. I would try to find a solution to my problem.

The other thing is have you thought about a 3pt finish mower? Have you posted to ask if anyone else has had the problems and how to correct them? Everyone on here is willing to help the best they can. But anyway enjoy that new JD it will last a lifetime. Take care, Jim
