PALLET FORKS FOR 300CX

hi guys, i'm getting a new 3520 with a 300cx fel. what is your advice on pallet forks. have been considering jd/frontier al1240f and horst medium duty [2000 lbs]. please give me the good and bad on either or any other advice that you might offer concerning pallet forks. fixed or floating? 42" or 48" forks? or any other brands to consider. thanks in advance. sincerely, bud

I have the Horst medium duty that will fit the 300cx, 400 & 500 series. I believe they are 3500 pounders. They are fixed and I would never go floating after using these. They are on of the best attachments. I have used them to lift 4 wheelers into my truck, help lift appliances into my house by myself and any other things arond the barn. I have made some study shelving that I can stack my 3 point equipment on and save floor space. You will love them!

These are well thought of. I will probably purchase this pair when I scrape some money together. The free shipping is to a freight depot; not your house. To your house is another $70 or $80.

In general it appears the John Deere ones eat up too much of the lift capacity of the 300 series loaders. At least you are getting the cx model. I bought my machine second hand and it had the smaller loader on it.

Apparently the fixed tines are better as you can dig with them where as the floating ones, while capable of being screwed down, are a pin to use if you need the forks for anything other than vertical lifting.

I've got the horst 2k unit and I've been pretty happy with them. The dealer told me that the paint isn't as good in the horst but they're a little heavier built than others. I've also heard that Everything attachments has a good set for cheap. You should check it out on the net.

I have the set that MATTCAGE reccomended above. I bought mine during the summer of 07 and am very pleased with them. They are one of my most used attachments. I use them on my 06, 3520 with a 300CX and have had them under several loads the loader wouldn't lift but the forks have withstood everything with no problem. Looks like the price has gone up quite a bit since I bought mine.

I've got the Horst 2K 42" cast forks, not the cheapest but very well made. I made mine to work with imatch QH as well.

I use the Frontier 2 spear hay spears. They are spaced a little further than the pallet forks but you just spear the pallet the opposite direction and they work extremely well. They then also work perfectly for picking up trees/branches etc... IMO, 3500 lbs capacity is not an issue on a loader than can only pick up 2000 lbs max especially something the size of a pallet. Figure about 1000-1300 lbs max hanging out that far from your pivot point.

Mine looks like this one below except it doesn't have the extra top protection.

I have the Horst 2k units too and they are well made and work well. I think the fixed units can be made adjustable by grinding down the stops?

I would be careful with these, as I would assume the bucket holders will stick out past the forks and eventually you will break it.

Horst forks here too. I have the fixed ones, particularly because you can dump stuff that's loaded onto the fixed ones. The floating ones are really only good for picking up pallets. The fixed forks can be used for so many other things.

I have the CA ones as above. They handle more weight than my loader (300X) and are fairly lightweight compared to many other brands. Good customer service and shipped right to my freight terminal.

Not sure what's meant by fixed vs floating, if floating means you can adjust the width, Mine are adjustable and I move all kinds of things, not just pallets.

I didn't realize any better quality forks would even come un-adjustable, seems that would be a detriment.

Fixed means the forks are firmly attached to the pallet frame at the top and bottom of the fork.
Floating tines are only attached at the top of the fork to the frame. The tine is allowed to "float" or swing freely at the bottom. Floating tines are sometimes easier to remove from a pallet and as the operator backs out of the pallet. As the operator backs away from the pallet the tips of the forks can't catch the bottom of the pallet and move the pallet with free floating tines.

Both fixed and floating pallet tines can be moved in or out for width as needed. (Few exceptions)

OK, thanks, now I get it, mine are fixed, I have seen the other type but think fixed would be more useful.

I load big piles of loose brush, so I see how those floating ones would make it difficult to dump/unload.

Can't go wrong with the Horst forks, give them a call & find out who your local dealer is; I was suprised as my local dealer sold them cheaper than suggested list by HLA.

Same here. I also got mine at my dealer and cheaper. I was concerned about the weight of them but I failed to realize I was also removing a rather heavy bucket.

I would check with the dealer. I am sure mine are 3750lb.

My Horst forks are heavy duty 48" 3700 lb. Use them on 790 w/300 loader. I would not want anything lighter on a 300CX. When I bought them new with tractor from JD dealer, He said they quit carrying frontier forks because too many were being returned bent. Here is the Horst link:

I just double checked my old paper work and mine are HD3742.
3700lb. 42inch $835.

Funny storey about my forks, when I got my tractor delivered with BH and loader, the forks that I ordered came with it but were not on the invoice. I thought for sure it was a freebie for buying such an expensive package. Made me even more satisfied with my purchase and dealer.

About 2 months later my salesman calls me and asks if I got a set of forks from them cause they are missing from their inventory, I paused for a brief moment but said yes, well he told me to expect an invoice for them in the mail and if I ever get anything like that again to let them know right away.
Didn't sour the deal but was not a great day. After another month they call me and ask if I got an extra set of draft arms cause those were also missing from inventory. Told them no (truth) and don't keep calling and asking me when something is missing
