Pallet Forks

   / Pallet Forks #21
I worked on Forklifts for 40 years. Standard length forks are 42", all load data is based on this length and a 24" load center. 48" forks are not bad, 60" forks can get you in trouble if you are not careful. Depending on the size of your equipment a 30" load center derates max capacity about 600 lbs. Although it varies a good rule of thumb is 100 lbs per inch over 24".

I have slightly longer forks. 48 or 60. I like the extra length. Occasionally for bigger pallets, often for rigging something with straps. I do catch the 2nd pallet when they are back to back & I go all the way in.

On my L4060 I only have 1,700lbs of lift. Luckily I run out of hydraulic lift rather than stability if I have any ballast on. As its only moderate lift capacity I went for lighter forks that met specs. No sense in heavy 4k forks eating up more of my lift capacity when 2k forks were lighter.

I'm on my 2nd set of PalletForks.com Titan forks. First set sold with the old machine. Hitch receiver & hay spear mounts were a big selling point. However I've never used either. I do use the hole in the end of the forks a fair bit for rigging or as a ball mount for lighter trailers. Quality on the forks is OKish Chinese quality. Support for a defect on the first forks was good. Reminds me if Harbor Freight to a degree.
