While using my new 3-pt pallet forks, I experimented around with lifting capacity on my B7800. Factory specs were confusing because I seldom have a complete load right at the lifting point or 24 inches behind.

For the test, I used a standard softwood 40x48" pallet with the 50 lb bags evenly distributed on top. Using Pat's easy change which moves the load back about 3 inches, I discovered I lost about 200 lbs of lift capacity. I was surprised that those 3 inches made so much difference.

With Pat's easy change: 21 bags of fertlizer + pallet forks + pallet (1050+168+60) = 1278 lbs.

Without Pat's easy change: 25 bags of fertlizer + pallet forks + pallet (1250+168+60) = 1478 lbs.

Note: With either setup, I quickly discovered that I needed front ballast in my FEL to go up even mildly steep hills.

I have a B7800, too. ...glad to hear the 3ph can actually lift that much. Makes me feel easier about its ability to handle the 750-800# log splitter that I am building. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Actually the same thing happens on the FEL. That is moving your load forward even inches (ie adding QA plates) decreases the overall lift capacity of the FEL itself.

It's all about leverage.

One interesting note when I was using my Alo/Quicke loader (Q920) with a rated capacity of 3000#:
When I picked up shingle bundles on a pallet, the loader would not move with just a smidge more than 3000# in load based on the wt of each bundle. It apparently has a safety override of some sort. Good Swedish engineering if a bit abrupt.

I now do my pallets with my bobcat and it will upend if I try to lift too much.

One thing I really recommend is the hydraulic forks--I can slide them together and apart from the seat. That is DOWNTOWN, folks. But these babies were costly, something like $2200,/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I would guess that the easy change weighs about 200 lbs?

blbii3, Pat's easy change adapters are so light that I didn't even include them in the calculation...maybe 10 lbs for both sides. The difference is in the extra 3 inches they shift the load backwards.

Gunnar... neat adj. lifting arms and a great idea. You're right about the lifting height... the extra 3 inches from Pat's easy change is nice to have when you're not at maximum load. But when I use them on my Jinma chipper the extra height makes everthing feel a bit tippy, so I'm always making adjustments as I drive across slopes.

avorancher, yeah Ive been checking out Pat's Easy Change and see why they affect lift capacity. At the time of the post I was ignorant and thought they were just another basically identical version of the quick hitch, which attaches at all 3 pts. Other than the front end lightness that is unavoidable with either extension the 3pt attach should come pretty close to preserving full lift capacty since the consolidated implement moves straight up -without pivoting- from a point 3 inches closer to the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
