I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of SSQA forks and SSQA hay spear for my Kubota M4900 FEL with 2000lb capacity.

I've looked around and see that PalletForks offers a combo forks and spear unit. I don't see anyone else offering this combo; is there a reason? Does this fork/spear combo compromise either function? Read alot of the PalletForks thread and didn't see but post or 2 commenting on the combo. Got to move those round bales soon!

All comments welcome. Thanks.

There are others that offer it but I think they make less money. Theyd rather well two impliments over one. I've seen good things about the combo your wanting. Be sure to post pics when it comes

I think the combo unit wouldn't work for my application. I need to drop the round bales into feeders and I think the projecting forks would make it difficult to do that accurately.
This may not be an issue for you, though.

We have this 36" set-up for our CK.
Honestly never even put the spear on. For what little bale moving we do it's just as easy to use the forks.

Just to clarify - you can run just the spear (and stabilizer tines) without the forks so it's "just" a spear and you can run it with just the forks (which are also adjustable width).

I can't see any reason you would lose functionality over a dedicated spear. The only thing that might be different is the geometry (i.e. how high the actual spear mounts over the center line of the SSQA plate). That might affect how much you can curl the higher the spear is mounted.

Otherwise I'm with Rusty, folks would rather just sell you two attachments.

I have the 42" setup, I use the forks for everything, except moving large squares. I put on the hay spike. It's much much easier to pick them up and move them. Only takes about 2 minutes to change over from spike to forks. Mine has the two inch receiver. Mine was an early one and it sticks a little out in front. My only complaint was it sticking out in front. The new ones they make are flush so they fixed that issue. The only issue with that was if you want your forks to be real close. You have to take one off and put it on the other side instead of sliding it there. Not a big problem, just nitpicking.

Oh ya one of those comment on that site is me.

I'm with N2DFire. I have a combination/swap-able bale-spike/pallet-fork for my FEL. They are easily interchangeable, although I'm the opposite and my spikes are mostly 'on'.

There are several designs out there.
