Here's my stance on the sarcasm defense when one is called on the carpet... it is weak, at best.:D (note smiley face: did he mean it or was he being sarcastic?).

Fine, but there is a really big flaw in your stance. How do you "call someone on the carpet" for their opinion???? You can't have it both ways, claim that there was no personal attack against me and then claim to have called me on the carpet. Personally, I feel that you are wrong on thinking it's not a political statement. Now, please explain to me how you are going to call me on the carpet, as you say, for my opinion unless you feel that your opinion is the only opinion that counts. That was why you and MikePA got the sarcasm; you came across, especially Mike, as if nobody else was allowed to have an opinion. Since Mike is very often sarcastic with people, I opted to use sarcasm, and certainly not a personal attack, to get my point across. That is when he tried to cry foul; when someone was bold enough to be sarcastic right back to him. Now, once again, how do you "call someone on the carpet" for their opinion without coming across as if your opinion is the only one that counts? :)

Now, I'm glad that someone "got" that comment. And, I have to admit, your last part did get me to literally laugh out loud! I like it. :)

Here's my stance on firearms... I think everyone should carry one unless they have been proven to be a menace to society or are mentally unfit.

Background check and trained to handle weapon, then no problem. When I had my CCW in PA. the background check was very very thorough. I also took a "know the gun laws" (when you can use deadly force, etc.). My time in the Army taught me gun safety.

"Shall not be infringed."

Would a very thorough check be enough? Or must it be a very, very thorough check? How many "verys" before it becomes an infringment?

Back to the topic...I wholeheartedly agree that if Panera bread says I can't get service in their place unless I walk in backwards, salute a Union Jack, speak in Farsi, and limit my web surfing to Smurf sites, they have every...and I do mean every...right to do that. And I...and Prokop and others...have the right to be critical of that, chose not to do business with them, and so on. Whether I "understand" the issues involved in the filtering or not (I spent the last 5 years of my full-time employment as a data administrator, so I am not "ingorant to what happens on the internet at every company every hour of every day" as Moss Road suggested--I had daily contact with our network staff) I have the right to disapprove of Panera's position or action---and it seems to me that presuming I take that position out of ignorance is arrogant.

Now if we're all done casting aspersions about each other, let's just acknowledge that there are different opinions here about whether this company's actions are prudent or not. From the standpoint of my values, they are not....BUT....but from the standpoint of what I think is probably their customer base it is probably a very good business decision.
