Any chance you could SSL encrypt any pages that are asking for the login? Looks to me like we are all logging in in clear text fields.

Which free, discussion sites on the Internet do you visit that use SSL for login? I don't visit any. The only sites I visit that use https are financial ones and sites that I pay a fee to use. Just curious why you'd think https would be needed for a free site.

I could see if you are entering in credit card or bank information, but what would be the need for such security for a forum login?

A login is a login. It's purpose is to ensure that the person is who they say they are. They are always confidential, and should be protected.

Do you really think anyone is going to spend time trying to capture the packets that contain your login to a tractor board? You shouldn't be using the same login and pasword for this type of place as you would for a financial place anyway.

I suppose if security concerns surrounding message board login info were heightened online in general, we would follow the trends and go to https logins. At this point, I can't recall ever being to a discussion forum that used https.

Okay it was just a suggestion. And yes, you'd be suprised what data is captured. They don't care what site you go to. I guess if the general trend in message boards is not to do this that makes sense to keep it that way. I'm in the biz and if I ask for a username or password for whatever reason it has to be encrypted. I am obviously outnumbered here though so I recant :).

I know several PHP forums that use SSL for login. These are deep underground forums for satellite hacking and war driving.

It might be something we add in later. But as it is right now, we're probably going to keep it standard login.
