Perils of retirement

   / Perils of retirement #131
I am trying to retire at age 52-then I will move to Brazil, most likely Southern Brazil. My wife is from there and its much cheaper to live as far as housing and food, plus we can live on the beach. I would like to find a place that already has mango, coconut, lime and passion fruit already growing. The finance part of course is iffy but we shall see, also trying to figure out what to do with my house, rent or sell or just close it up. My medical is all set now but I need to save up some money for things like a used car there.

I had a forced retirement last year I was diagnosed with stage 4 prostate cancer and it has gotten into my bones and pinched my nerves in my back causing my left leg to go numb so I went from working 10-12 hours a day 5 days a week now it's sitting around most of the day. And I'm only 55 but they have the cancer under control but it's my nerves that have me in pain 24-7 but I have to wait on the VA to clear all the treatment I get. Just found out yesterday that I have been able to get a appointment with a specialist who is going to fix my nerves and hopefully I can get back to a some what normal life.

There are certainly more differences between men and women than sex. Brains are totally different and appear to have very differing reasoning capabilities. My brain function is much more haphazard and laid back than my wife's. I do not care one iota if my drawers are pink...

Best of Luck and you are in my prayers.

You know I sure get a kick out of reading these stories fellas, I have only been married 10 years but I see alot of myself in them. I use as few dishes as possible since i hate washing them. I am already banished from doing laundry even though i did it for years when I lived by myself. She cringes when I tell her the whole basket gets dumped in and washed. :D Its to the point that I'm not even able to fold towels correctly due to her OCD coming out.

My wife quit putting her dirty clothes in the hamper with mine after a nice blouse got ruined from grease stains on my jeans.

I rarely fold clothes. Only do when the item I'm looking for is in the dryer with other items. Because she's a good wife and I respect her, I taught myself how to fold towels her way. She never complained about how I did it. Just thought it was the least I could do. Just as she tries to put my tools back exactly as she found them. :)

Its obvious - few of us sort clothes prior to washing. Like I told the wife - do not worry about my red sweat shirt in with everything else - it quit dying things pink many washes ago.

I had to put in a 2nd clothes washer and dryer for the wife. She does not think her clothes should be washed in anything that washed my cow poop, grease and dirt laden clothes. Picky picky.

Prayers that you get your nerves fixed and full use of your legs again.

So sorry to hear this but glad that you say they have it under control. Cancer is nasty. My wife is going though chemo now for 2 cancers, would not wish it on anyone.
