Rat,
I'm just sending this to you because I agreed with what you said! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
My wife heard either Jenning's or Brokow ask someone when they thought they would be able to interview the highjackers...... She was watching at work and everyone just looked at each other and burst out lauging at the innanity and stupidity of the questiong.
I think its Rather who has the highest education of the three. And his is only a teaching certificate type of thing from Texas. My impression was that its only a two year degree. I don't think a college education makes one a better person over someone who does not. But a college education should do at least two things. Provide the student with a broader world view AND to be able to find information i.e., to keep on learning. Course its real nice if the old sheepskin leads to a paying job! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
I don't think anyone one of the Three Bozos have ever broaded their views or can lean anything.
Back in the 80's PBS was running a program where they would create a panel of people and throw a scenerios at them. The panel would have lawyers, judges, military people, maybe a president, company CEO's, "journalists", members of congress and people who had served at high levels in government. I was watching one of the programs which was about the invasion of a county in Latin America by the US. They had a fake name but it sounded like and everyone knew it was Nicaragrua. The panel had Rather and either Jennings or Brokow. I can't tell the two appart.
Anyway they were given this question. "You find out the US is about to invade the target county. Do you report the story?"
Both answer yes. The question was repeated but thrown in was, "Not only do you know about the attack and when it will occur. If you report the story the invasion will still occur. Do you report the story?"
Both answer yes.
The third question was all of the above but with the addition of, "If you report the story, your source tells you there will be 10,000 casualities. Do you report?"
Brokow/Jennings hesitated at that point. Rathers said, "Yes." The military and government officials looked at him with a look of suprise, hatred and contempt.
That little question and anwer session provides one heck of a look at the character, and lack there of, of these guys. They are only interested in getting the story AND they don't think ahead NOR care about the effects of publishing of a story.
And if case anyone doubts the effectiveness of the show. It really put these people on the hot seat. You would get true looks at people's character and how they would react. It was a very good show. Wish they would do some more....
The biggest problem this country faces is not Terrorism or insipid leadership in Congress but the prejudice, bias, arrogance and lack of education of The Press. Without factual and pure information a democracy has a tough time. I used to watch lots of news but nowadays I use the web and stay away from the networks. The funny thing is, and the same show I mention previously showed this during an episode about the press, is that the press things the declining viewership of the network news is because American's are dumb. I've heard them say dumb in so many words. They don't even consider that the people realize what junk is fed them on the networks. They think, I heard them say it, that people could not handle more time being spent on a story. That the people did not have the attention span to grasp a five minute segment as opposed to the 30 second sound bite. Incredible but very sad.....
Off my soapbox! /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
