Pick up cab clearance lights - required?

Mine came with my 08 2500 single wheel GMC. LED. One single side one failed under warranty. A hundred Bucks! The same one failed out of warranty! I don't like the old looking FORD ones, but a hundred bucks? I bought the wrong side one off E-Bay cheap, and cut it apart to work on the other side!

$100 fix is crazy for a $65 option. If you build your own, that's what the upcharge is for the lights with pretty much all 3 trucks. $65.

$100.oo fix for what should be a 79 cent bulb is the modern way!

Paying a dealer to replace the assembly could make the cost a lot higher still!

I knew 1 person years ago that had them on a 10+ year old truck, his leaked.

Do they all leak eventually?

I am not sure.

Mine was a 2000 and they leaked, I ended up siliconing around the bases AND the lense. No more leaks. A couple years later, I had a bulb burn out, replaced it and didn't reseal with silicon and it leaked between the orange globe and the black base until I sealed again. I actually pulled the headliner down and saw the water dripping in from the cab light.

It was always said that vehicles with AC were prone to corrosion across the top of the windshield. So, I guess having holes there does not help.
