I doubt that. I know just enough to keep myself out of trouble. :D Unlike a certain self proclaimed trailer expert... who pulls a trailer for a living. :punch:

I figured I'd add a picture of the welder I had picked up. I made up the leads with quick connects after I had purchased the machine. I kept the stock stinger, but upgraded the ground clamp.

I still think you got a very good deal. I sold a Lincoln AC only a couple years ago. Was asking $150 but let it go for $125. The AC/DC used ones around here go for $175-$250 without any accessories.

+1 on the good deal... I looked for an ac/dc in decent condition for that price for over 6 months on cl...never found one.

For the price people wanted it was better for me to get a new everlast.

I still can't get over something that's better than 25 years old had this little use. I think I'm going to like the longer leads, will give me some room to move.

I wonder how you're going to like those steps / jumps in the amp selector? I can't say I've ever used a welder like that. :confused2:

Time will tell, right now seems ok, I'm sure it'll be a while for me to tell the difference on incremental amperage adjustments. In class we've been running 1/8" 6011 at 75amps DC- on 1/4" plate.

6011 on DC-? Are you sure? 6011 is designed to run on AC or DC+. 75 amps seems a little cold but the instructor should have pointed out that you never go by what the machine says. The Lincoln machines have steps but I like the way the Lincoln welds compared to a Miller Thunderbolt with continuous current control. Happy, please keep us informed of what's going on in your class. We may have some questions for your instructor. ;) We want to make sure you're getting the correct information.

Arc Weld, I'll double check, but I'm amost positive (no pun intended) he's been having us run it DC- Now I'll really be scratching my head til Tuesday night.

What you should try is 6010. Among other things, it is a polarity check rod. If you just had 2 cables and the welder hidden, you could tell which was positive and which was negative or if it was AC, just by using 6010. If you're running DC-, ask him why? Could you be on AC, AC machines can still list - and + but it doesn't mean much. Maybe there's some odd reason he wants you to have less than ideal welds to begin with? 6011 is an odd choice for the first rods to use. Has he told you about whipping them? What are his qualifications and what does his welding look like? What machine do you use at school?
