Here are a few pictures of my barn that my son and I built. He built the timber frame members in the summer/fall of 2010 and we erected it with the help of friends the following summer. Then in 2015 we added the timer frame shed roof around the side and back of the barn.

Like others have already said....WOW, that is beautiful. At some point in the next year or two I'd like to build a small guest house. I'd be very happy/proud if I had the skills to build something of the caliber of what you have there. Very nice job!

I will echo the compliments to JackinVT on the beautiful barn....

And on a similar note, like the tv show, Barnwood Builders, it inspired me to start the process of timberframing a barn of our own, much more crude than Jack's, but built on a tight budget, from locust and other lumber I'll harvest from our property.

Yes, we are both very proud of "our" barn. Unfortunately my son now lives in Colorado and only gets to visit it once a year. After He completed college as civil engineer he trained as a timber framer (Heartwood School in Washington, Ma). As a civil engineer he had worked in waste water management which did not exactly inspire him. He then worked for a couple of small timber frame companies out west. When the housing market took a hit he was laid-off and came home and offered to build the barn. I supplied the tools, materials, food, shelter, and very meager wages. While building the barn's timber frame he realized he lacked the knowledge/skill to properly size the main support beams and instead had to rely on the overkill approach. Somewhere in that process he decided to return to school and get his masters in structural engineering. He attended Oregon State earning a dual masters in structural engineering and wood science. His master thesis was actually an analysis of the structural strength of my timber frame barn to a comparable stick built frame, the timber frame won of course. Now he works for a smallish structural engineering firm in Colorado and has built a few barns on the side. He loves timber framing but engineering pays better. So obviously I am also very proud of my son as well.

Thanks everyone for kind comments!

Congratulations on raising a son that has a passion and has found a way to make a living around it.

Here are pictures of barns located on Darling Hill Rd in Burke VT. The first two are on the Darling Farm.

Very strange, but the upside down pictures will right themselves when you click on them.

Those are some great and big barns! Is the yellow one a house/barn combination?

BTW - you do have an interesting way of posting pictures!

The yellow barn is just a barn. The house, also yellow, sits up on a hill across the road. I wish I took a picture of it. It is a huge mansion, very impressive. The views from Darling Rd where these barns reside are amazing. Interestingly no matter what I did some of the pictures always were upside down, until you click on them.

When you use landscape mode, do you always rotate the iPhone5s so the same side is up?

Good question! Most likely I do not. That is very likely the issue. Great catch!
