If you need to block up the crankshaft, to take the houseing off, then what do you have the front of the tractor supported with? I was going to put a block under the oil pan to support it, while I split it, if I do decide to. I don't have a chain hoist or anyother way to do it.

You can split it the way you described. On my YM1110D, there is a plate bolted to the back of the engine, and the bell housing is bolted to this. That plate extends down lower than the oil pan. I probably removed the rear bolts from the pan, then put blocks under that plate. Removed the remaining bolts and pried off the pan. That should leave you enough access to prop the crank.

We are talking about 2 completely different engines here. Mine don't have such a plate like you are talking about.
