Thanks Paul and Lineman, Now I have a clear idea of what everyone was talking about. I've never heard that term before or tried using anything like that. Maybe some day I will and now I know what to use for igniting a fire. Appreciate the knowledge. Greg
Your welcome.

I have most of what was an old fat tree left. I've used some of it but for the most part it's all there. There's a company in our area that harvested the fat lighter for the manufacture of dynamite so alot of ours has been taken.
40 or so years ago down in these parts there was a company that went by the name of Hercules and after a tract of old growth or what we called virgin timber was cut they would dig or uproot with a big machine all the pine stumps for the manufacturing of black powder and explosives.

Hercules had a big plant and HQ in Wilmington, DE right near me. The were bought out by Ashland in 2008.
Lots of my friends parents worked their and DuPont of course.

Interesting reading Hercules Inc. - Wikipedia.

Hercules downsized and eventually closed shop in a small town about 20 miles North of where I live, I always heard it was due to most of the virgin pine stumps had been cut and dug and the new fast growing pines such as slash pine were useless to them, ironically Dupont is still a major employer in that same town to this day, they mine for minerals.

Put in some rye today, broad casted seed and fertilizer mixed together and harrowed them in , in a couple of fields today while it drizzled rain, tomorrow I'm going to get out the no-till drill and do a couple of fields that way.

I'm not sure who lived there. That was 50+ yrs ago when we lived in Devon, PA. The Estate was huge. It had a big open slope down to a large pond. They allowed locals to use the slope for sledding and the pond for skating. Which we did but we never saw anybody? Devon was a beautiful rural area when I was a kid. Neighbors had horses they would hitch up to a pair of 7 man toboggans and trot them around the neighborhood giving all the kids rides. Good Times (y)
