Snow Equipment Owning/Operating Pictures of your snow weapons

This might be a dumb question but I saw a Skid Steer hydraulic powered SSQA snow plow for sale. What would I need to hook that up to my tractor?

Are the hook ups the same or different? Never seen a skid steer hook up and have no experience with it.

I don’t have a 3rd function on the tractor yet. Not sure if I would invest a lot in one, being the skid steer plow has two cylinders I assume I need two valves? Wouldn’t be as simple as running a few hoses from the rear remote.

Let me see if I can help answer a few more of your questions.

- if the plow looks like the one here. You’d probably fine. Those cylinders aren’t any different than a grapple or truck mounted plow.
- yes you would require a 3rd function but just one not two. Summit Husraulics has the cheapest I’ve seen. Installation is easy. I just finished my own.
- the connection points are likely going to be Bobcat style quick connects. No issue here. You merely unscrew them and install whatever quick connects you end up with on your tractor.
- I just posted my build cost in here title “another underslung story”. Folks are going to chime in and recommend you install cushion valves, flow restrictors etc. it’ll give you an idea what your in for.
- I dont know much about rear remotes but folks run them to operate pistons like this all the time. In short actuating small pistons doesn’t take much.

I use a 96” SSQA plow on my L6060. I bought it used, (well actually previously owned but unused). It’s got a urethane cutting edge and works great on blacktop with the shoes removed.

I did add a cushion valve and connect it to my third function. If you don’t have a third function, you could run long hoses back to the rear remotes, it only takes one valve to work the angle regardless of how many cylinders are on the blade. Y9ur tractor hydraulics would be adequate to operate the angle cylinders, the high flow attachments with motors like augers, snowblowers or brooms would be a different story. And I’m assuming that you have a SSQA on your loader.

I’ll look for some pictures or take one when I get to the shop.

Yah, right.. I moved from a blower to this blade.. and found plowing the drive and road was considerably faster (and less melting snow in the shed).

We gravitate to what we like.. and the tractor with blade is handy.

Great video. Almost mesmerizing with the momentum you carry (something I'll learn to do as I level out any uneven surfaces in my driveway). The length of your driveway easily justifies the side mounted plow. Any videos of that in action?

Curious about your cutting edge...
Your blade is a similar weight to my HLA 84" blade, and I am considering a uhmw polyethylene edge. I can't decide on the thickness though. Is your edge actually polyurethane? How thick, and how is it wearing?
I have a 2" thick polyurethane edge on my lighter rear plow which has worn well over the past 4 seasons. I lowered the edge this season to accommodate 1" of wear.
The polyethylene uhmw supposedly wears better than urethane, and I only see it available up to 1.5" thick.

Curious about your cutting edge...

It is 1-1/2” x 8” urethane. I got it from Fall Line -

I had a friend with a waterjet cut the holes for me. There’s 2 sets of holes, so I can lower it, then flip it and lower it again. He also cut the square holes for the carriage bolts. In the steel backer. I provided him the CAD drawings.

This is impressive. If I had a long driveway, I'd be all over this! Maybe I ought to build it, get insured and start plowing for the town. They have all sorts of contractors signed up to plow (Small town).

A lot of things work before the windrows freeze solid. After that it's like the Titanic glancing off of an iceburg.

You don't see alot of those fixed angle blades with a snow blower impeller on the end, on here. Kind of a hybrid blade/blower.

I have a L39TLB with a Loftness 60" snow blower on the SSQA. Get the motor model number and find the Cu in displacement. You can determine the speed of blower impeller by that displacement and your gpm hydraulic supply. I have up to 9 gpm and at first , mine would not throw the snow very far... but worked. With research, I found Loftness offered it with a smaller motor. So I replaced mine from 4.9 to 3.6 cu inch. Now it rotates faster with same oil flow. Snow blower success is all about impeller speed.
