Pin Hole Too Big

Almost like there's supposed to be a bushing in there that's missing.

Kinda my thoughts in requesting a pic of the other side as well.
If the boom swing cylinders were push-pull (DA) type (rather than push only SA like a snowplow), and the one cylinder is good an tight, pushing the boom my hand wouldnt show anything unusual.
Looks like its a pair of double acting cylinders with the rod side of one teed to the base side of the other:

That hole looks really big and suspiciously round, I almost wonder if that pin is too small for the hole (ie: the original pin was replaced with a skinnier one)?

Agree about the hole looking too big and too round as mentioned.

If they are DA cylinders as you say Aaron, and the other side has a right pin, you wouldn't see any slop by hand. It would operate similar to a rear blade or snowplow with a single cylinder.

Some are set up as push only cylinders, then you would feel every bit of that slop by hand.

Generally DOM tubing is great to make bushings.

ID is accurate and plenty of OD to machine down to hole size. Also enough 'meat' that there is no distortion when welding the bushing in place. Even if the OD is not perfect fit for the worn out hole welding takes care of that. Just have a length of pin on hand to assure good alignment when welding the bushings in place.
Naturally a reamer assures proper alignment and fit.

Need to break it down and at least remove the pins and swing the rod ends out to see what is going on.

But I notice in your picture the two bolts that hold the pin in, the one on the right looks backed out and the one on the left looks rounded off. Two different type of bolts as well, by looking at the markings on the heads.

Swing Frame Pin Hole Good to Go.jpg
The left side pin is good to go. Proper pin size is 1-1/4 in. and the covered, oversized hole is roughly 1-3/4 in. There is no bushing on the swing frame but there is between the pin and cylinder's swing rod. The swing rod has the grease fitting and the guess is that it wasn't lubed, resulting in the swing rod freezing to the bearing which froze to the pin with apparent impressive adhesion. The best guess regarding the nice roundness of the oversized hole is that for every movement of the backhoe to the left there was also one to the right and the two swing cylinders were nicely balanced. I still haven't ground off the washer as I found that they also messed around with the wiring to disable the seat safeties and for some reason installed two in-line 40 amp fuses that were mysteriously installed underneath the body, so now I'm trying to re-trace their logic and return those things back to spec.

PILOON - Thanks for great suggestion. DOM tubing is something new for me and, in looking at its specs and price it seems that a length could be fit and welded to go from the top to the bottom of the frame, filling both holes, and then the middle portion cut out to make room for the cylinder's swing rod. That should assure (pretty much) alignment of the two holes. If all goes well, that might mean that the work can be done on site instead of having to take the swing frame to the machinist.

You're new here, so like a lot of people who start out here you probably think its OK to slam a company on the internet, call them A-holes, and pontificate on the way Capitalism works, and what's right and wrong about how Caveat Emptor works, and so on. Well, it doesn't work that way here. You can't call a business or individuals 'A-holes' on TBN, or most places on the net without opening yourself up to being sued for libel. AND, you signed an agreement before becoming a member of TBN that states this kind of behavior is prohibited here. So, if you don't like what you bought at auction, and feel deceived by them, for doing what many many companies might have done to fix the hoe enough for it to go to auction; then you need to get a better grip on reality.
Deceit to you is functionality from the seller's POV. If you want factory fresh, buy new and get a warranty. If you go to an equipment auction and buy used, you get used, sometimes abused. Problem; take it up with the company that sold it to you.
It is ridiculously naive to think you're owed more for what you bought.

As far as a repair, do what makes the most economical sense, and move on. BTW, that's what the former owner did.

Deceit IMO, since there was nothing at all functional about the repair.

If they had welded a 1-1/4 washer to the swing frame...I can see that as a temp repair. But welding the washer to the pin does nothing functional at all other than mask a big problem. It's like filling a cracked casting with body putty and painting it to deliberately hide a defect. Does nothing functionally......

A company like that, IMO, should be called out so we as consumers can avoid them. But we can come on here and sing praise all day long when a company goes above and beyond, likewise we should be able to express when we were wronged. But nothing like a double standard. State the facts from your side, and how you feel you were wronged and let each person judge for themselves IMO. But I know that's not what you are about...
