Mike, you did not offend me and the fitting you recommend might be better. Did enjoy some of things you brought up in your posts. Only a fool does not consider other recommendations. Big part of problem in our country today. Still believe he will be fine with his original question.

Worked for large heavy equipment company years over 30 ago on machines that had more hyds than any excavator or tractor loader backhoe. We used hoses and most with I think npt ends, all made to our company's specs. The type of fittings used to connect the hoses to cylinders or valve body or to hyd pump were carefully specified. Each machine was heavy load tested and operated before ever shipped. Know our product held high industry reputation.

For my own use prefer having hose made for the application with end fitting that is what is needed to connect directly. Still have had emergency with hoses that have even two adapters between hoses and machine connection to get machine running, NOW.

I would just stick with ORFS hoses. Rather than convert to NPT (my last choice) or JIC (my second choice) just to be able to buy a quick "emergency" replacement hose.

If you really think you will need a quick replacement hose, buy a spare hose(s) or buy the fittings to convert to NPT for emergency hose replacement. Then you will have the fittings and can run out for a NPT hose.

I have decided to go with the ORFS as original except for the 3rd function hose fittings.

Turns out I have a pair of hoses from a past project that are near perfect for my grapple hoses. The ends in those are NPT so I will get 2 adapters for those.

My usual hose shop has all the fittings I need in stock. I made up a worksheet to document all the connections, lengths, and clocking needed.

Man it would be nice to have extra hose sitting on shelf. A great idea to me for such as pull implements for tractors as could buy longest hose and just roll the extra up and tie strap it. But for a machine such as my excavator would have to pull the hose off to take it to have an extra hose made by unless you had the specs for the hose or you buy from a dealership.

Now a funny story regarding hydraulic hoses.
In the early 90th, I worked for a hydraulic company. A decent sized construction company was one of our frequent customer. Sometimes they just stopped by, dropped off an old hose to get a new one made and they picked it up on the way back home. Usually those hoses came with a tag showing how many pieces needed and work order number.
One day, one of their mechanics dropped off a box full of hoses, every single one with a tag and the required numbers. Our parts clerk figured, we didn't have enough fittings in stock to make all those hoses. He measured them, listed the ends and ordered then ready made from our supplier.

Maybe two weeks later, those hoses arrived in a massive big box.

The customer got the call to pick up their hoses. Another mechanic showed up to grab them and was surprised about the amount of hoses. It was unusual.

It didn't take long, till our boss got a call from the foreman.

A mechanic fixed a paving machine, he numbered all the hoses to make sure he gets them back in in the right order. He wanted to replace the damaged ones and ordered them. But the number on the tag wasn't the pieces required it's been the number for the position it's been removed. Every hose was needed only once, but some hoses were made 45 times.
