Pitbulls are the favored bread of choice with the meth heads where I live. It's such a problem that my town recently passed stricter visious dog laws that allow the police to distroy pitbulls on the spot if they are involved in an attack.

The criminal justice system should be allowed to do the same to their meth head owners.....

I got a letter from my home owners ins. company (Nationawide) last year that said they would not cover any claims against me if I own a Pitbull, Doberman Pinscher or Chow.

The Pitbulls seem like it's driven by public concept and the fact that a lot of drug dealers harbor them and mistreat them. Now, the Chow, every vet I've spoken with has told me that the Chow (percentage wise) bites more people than any other breed.

Back when I was about 4 years old, I was at a neighbor's house who had a huge dog (seemed like a horse to me back then). I always laid on the dog and he would walk around with me hanging on his back. We were over playing one day and they had just set his food bowl down. I went over to hang on him and he snapped at me. He might have pinched my leg a little (could have did far worse if he wanted too), but it scared me to death. I ran home crying. The neighbors came over to see if I was all right or if I needed to go to the hospital even though it was my own fault. Dad said it just scared me and I was fine. They said if I needed to go to the hospital to let them know and they would take care of it.

When someone asks if a dog will bite, the answer should be yes because all dogs will bite if pushed that far. When someone asks me that about my lab-shepherd mix, I tell them "As long as you don't mess with the kids he's fine" which is why whenever we have cookouts or other people over, I put the dog in his pen just to be on the safe side. My niece went to pet the dog and pulled at his eye and he just laid there and never made a sound, but my brother was quick to make her release the grip. But when she started to cry the dog was right there to make sure everything was ok.

We have a neighbor that lets the dogs run loose and they have been reported multiple times. One of the dogs likes to chase cars. I use to drive to avoid hitting him but after years of dodging the dog and after seeing his aggression towards my dog and other people, I dont dodge anymore I just drive like I should.

Later,
Dan

When a dog starts chasing me and runs beside the car,I have swung the car door open as hard as I can and try and hit the dog in the head. I have done this before and stop/slowed the dogs down.
Years ago a buddy of mine and I were riding our dirt bikes on a dirt road,my buddy was about 30 feet in front of me and a dog started chasing him and did not even notice me coming up on him, until the dog turned around and my size 12 boot was coming right at him, that dogs eyes were as big as silver dollars right before I connected and rolled his miserable butt of the road.

I hate it when ever one of my dogs chase a car,I had a cur dog one time that was a good dog but he would chase 4 wheelers,a neighbor boy was out riding his 4 wheeler one day and my dog started chasing him and got tangled up/hit by the 4 wheeler and came back to the house with not feeling too good, the boy came down to the house on the 4 wheeler and was concerned about the dog,I asked the boy on the 4 wheeler if he was ok and he said he was fine...I said the dog got what he deserved and I am glad you never wrecked and got hurt, the next time the boy went out the road the dog started up to the road like he was going to chase him and stopped about 30 feet from the road and just watched him go by and turned around and walked back to the house after deciding it was not worth it again.

I've heard Dalmatians bite more people than any other breed. They happen to be my breed of choice, but unlike many irresponsible people, mine have a 6 ft high fenced in yard and do not run all over the countryside. Many of my neighbors seem to have some idea that since we live in the country their dogs should be allowed to go wherever they want. I had a lot of trouble with the dogs of the neighbor who used to live across the road. One was a German shepard and one was a Rottweiler. They were always running loose and threatening to attack me and guests at my home. Everytime I asked them to fence or chain the dogs they acted as if I was some kind of pain in the you know what. Well, they finally got an invisible fence, which solved my problem, but the dogs attacked one of their children. That little boy's face was practically ripped off. They shot the dogs after that. But, I can't help but wonder why they ignored the viscious behavior of their dogs until something horrible happened.

I hope your friend is okay. By all means, the pitbull owner is 100% responsible. If my dog were to get out and attack a neighbor I would certainly assume the responsibility.

Heard it from few realtors - when buying a house or moving in the area - look to see how many pitbulls you find people walking around. More fighting dogs, worse neigborhood.

Our dogs run free on our 4 fenced acres, but Venus - great pyreneese - likes to escape every so often to mark some teritory (ie she goes and pees in the neighbors back yard, neighbor is a state trooper:))
Always makes me nervous, she can get in big trouble easily, she is from rescue and she tends to be nervous. When we have visitors or when we are gonne - she is on a zip line to be on the safe side.

Compare to Montmorency, the airedale, she is a wolf, hard to say what is going on in her bean.

How did Buster make out, is he ok?

Buster ended up with 200 stitches. Mostly in his neck area. Busters owner said that his head was almost off !! Somehow it survived. $1200 later and he is running around just fine now. Sorry i forgot to mention his status in the original post.
The thing about this is that the pitbull owner and Busters owner are friends ( i would guess since the pitbulls owner has worked for him for a few years now. )
I think the right thing to do is atleast offer to pay the bills.

I think I will stick with my LAZY English bulldog.

this is really a sad fact of life, it's the owners fault that he had a unbalanced dog and did nothing to fix it. If any one has read ceser millen or seen his show he shows how a lot of these problems are because people do not know how to own dogs.If the owners of out of control dogs had to meet the same punishment as their dogs, maybe the fun of a super mean dog would be lessened or more care and time would be given to them
